If i were Korean, i would ask a question
As a editor, why not supervise the article wirtten by reporter ??
Duke’s article reflects only one point of view and it is not an very insightful view either. He fails to mention the direct and often indirect intervention in Korean affairs through the course of time, beginning with the 1890’s when China was considered by some to be more of a menace than Japan, at the time. The intervention of a Communist China in Korea during the Korean War also lead to the partitioning of Korea into two halves.
More recently we have seen the discreet but sinister influence of China in the internal affairs of Nepal, Myanmar (Burma) and North Korea — much of which is not often reported in mainstream news agencies.
Additionally, considering the history of military dictatorship in South Korea and the problems with human rights here, during that time, it is only natural that South Koreans might feel worry about having such a neighbor that is not reluctant to use various forms of coercion against its citizens, including armed force.
Rather, Duke’s article is a pretty shallow waste of words since he has demonstrated no real understanding of why there might be fear of a seemingly malefic government in China.
