Arabeyes: Mauritanian President Ousted in Military Coup d'état The democratically elected Governemnt of Mauritania has been alarming the arabic Dictators and their foreign sponsors very well. So the militarily led coup d'etat must have been blessed by arabic Kings and authoritarian Regimes, who would love to end every glimmer of Hope for Democracy in the arabic World .

Quote: "This way, Mauritania, which was just about to reap the fruit of democracy in a pioneering move which the entire region was eyeing with excitement, things return to what they were originally, and the military intervened and the coup happened."

It's never too late for Mauritania to become a little more democratic. Patience! Patience!

Kowri, the Arab press never writes much of anything about Mauritania... but you're right. Of course, the language means that most people writing about Mauritania in Arab newspapers are, well, Arabs.

I noticed the FLAM, a radical southern/Black Mauritanian group in exile in Senegal, has denounced the coup. They seemed to be close to making peace with Sidioca before...

I just tumbled onto this blog, while I was browsing the Internet for the latest information about the recent military coup in Mauritania, an African country that a has an inferiority complex of wanting to be Arab, at all cost.

I was born in Mauritania, educated in Mauritania, and worked in Mauritania as civil servant for many years, in many parts of the country.

I would not say Africa is a cursed continent, but I am in a position to say that Mauritania is a cursed country for the following reasons:

a) Mauritania is a cursed country because it practices slavery on the Haratins, a large segment of its muslim population.

b) Mauritania is cursed country because it is a racist country. Its blatant racism is sponsored by the different Arab-berber regimes of the country, since its independence from France on November 28, 1960.

Although the Black population (all muslim)constitutes 80 % (of the total population), they continue to be marginalized economically, socially, and politically. They are presented only to 5% in all aspects of government.

c) Mauritania is a cursed country because a genocide has been committed against the Black population (1989-1991) by Maouya Ould SIDA Ahmed, a military racist criminal dictator who was in power (from December 12, 1984 to August 5, 2005). Hundreds of these citizens were arrested, tortured, and executed in cold blood, while thousands other were deported to Senegal and Mali, because they refuse to adhere to Mauritanian policies of arabization.

These are facts about Mauritania.

Why the Arab press never denounce Mauritania?

I really would like to know.
