Why at a time so critical to environmental awareness would Beijing, China be selected to host the Olympic Games? I applaud athletes, such as Ethiopa's marathon runner for the courage to step up and say "no" to subjecting themselves to a smog filled venue that in no way represents what the Olympic competition should stand for on this planet we all share. Shame on anyone who applauds the Chinese for "shutting down factories and traffic "temporarily" to reduce pollution for the sake of the games. What a farce? We need to stop thinking of our environmental issues as a temporary problem because they are becoming more permanent each day! Thank you Ethiopia for bringing this global issue to the forefront! You have won the Gold Medal in the stand you took!
