Happyvag, a police blogger, comments on the recent Shanghai police assault case which resulted in the death of 5 polices. He admitted that the violence comes in a circle and if the police department doesn't change its practice, there will be more police assault cases.
Lawyer and blogger raymiyatake expresses his doubts [ja] over the election of Japanese diplomat Yukiya Amano as director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). First, he says, Amano was supported by only 23 nations out of 35. Second, he points out the difficult situation that the Agency is dealing with, at present, and the “unfairness” of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which should be applied also to the five members already recognized as possessing nuclear power. Lastly, he suggests that instead of promoting a “pacific use” of nuclear energy, this should be replaced with clean energy sources (such as the geothermal or the aeolian ones).
This year is Mobile Suit Gundam's 30th birthday.
While a giant statue of the robot stands in Odaiba's park (in the Tokyo bay area), in a theatre of northern Tokyo, blogger/actress Rie Takahashi [ja] and her crew pay tribute to the animated television series in stage play Robot.

I will NEVER go to CHINA for any reason, especially after a Canadian model is found dead. It would be nice to think the police will actually find the murderers and have them charged. I feel sorry for those people in China that are in prisons and have their organs removed, or their bodies unwillingly donated for display. The amount of abuse towards its own citizens is appalling. I hope the Olympics spotlights the many corruptions and abuses that occur to ordinary citizens that live in China.
The police had better find the murderes to our Canadian model and take action against the China modelling agency that quickly took down its website after this sad death.
SHAME ON CHINA!
Liz, you may as well never go anywhere in the world. Two French university students were killed in LONDON - UNITED KINGDOM last weekend. They were stabbed more than 200 times and set on fire. In America, kids kill each other opening fire in schools. What would you say?
Well done Paula.
Liz I am a British national who has lived in Shanghai for 4 years and this is the first murder of a foreigner I have heard about. How many Canadian cities can compare? The Chinese people are some of the best people I have ever met. Whilst this is a great shame its not representative of Shanghai or China. How can u possibly hold “China” accountable? Stop believing the biased Western propoganda about China and make your own mind up.
Thanks, John - but in fact I am only here to do push-up, :) sorry, I couldn’t resist!
push up?
It is an inside joke related to other post on China we had this week. I mentioned because you said you live in Shanghai, which was breaking records of pushups: http://globalvoicesonline.org/2008/07/07/china-lets-do-push-up/
Liz,
That’s why China shut off Tibet, because China was afraid for foreigners’ safety. You guys had to say it was crack down! Trust me, murder is very very rare in China compared with USA. You should feel safe since possessing weapon such as gun is China is outlawed.
usa = free handgun = death!
Liz, China is well known for less crime is because of the tough penalty includes death sentence for those who committed crime.
On the other hand, how much do you know about China?
you sound like a worthless carpet eater and you should just shut your piehole and be quite or perhaps you really a faggot behind computer screen…. who knows, anyway, MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON YOUR SOUL WHEN YOU ON YOUR WAY TO HELL……
