I´m brazilian and I was wondering how Monteiro Lobato made this incredible book.
I´ve read the book and I fell that sometimes all available information around Obama it´s not enough to determine what really will be done when he reaches the White House...
But, anyway, all comments about Obama, stereotypes and minorities are so smart and I´m really surprised to found it.
Great Post!

I am deeplymoved by the exhierating pride from my people in Brasil for Sen.Barack Obama, This is a chance to open the worlds eyes from stereotypes and misconceptions of minorities, And for African Americans, and other minorities in America can invest in history and see that the ancestry roots are greatly enshrined in Brasil, As a native of Sao Paulo, And one who came to the states and went to law school here, I can fundamentally employ the emotional pain of what minorities have suffered in this country and Brasil, And now to witness History taking place and people of all ethnic decents rallying for support for Obama is the most beautiful sight to see.

Hey Jillian and Chris, thanks!

The story is really interesting, and there is more:

"A dense and fascinating debate is under way in Brazilian academic, press and on-liue circles over the relationship between the Internet, the fictions of Jorge Luis Borges and the (hitherto underplayed) role of Brazilian literature in anticipating aspects of today's networked world."
<a href="http://christopherrollason.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!459178C2F5215F32!622.entry" rel="nofollow">BORGES AND THE INTERNET - DEBATE IN BRAZIL</a>

Jillian, here is more about the book in English:

"It is the 23rd century in America. For the first time in history, Blacks are going to elect one of their own to the presidency of the United States. The new President decides to divide the country in two: the South for the Blacks and the North for the Whites. The White majority, however, is not ready to give up its power and concocts a diabolical plan. This futuristic scenario, which includes plans of mass expatriation of American Blacks to the Amazon, was written in 1926 by Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato.
