Oh also, the research is being funded entirely by me. I receive not one dollar from my publisher until I hand in a manuscript, which will happen in October 2008.

Maya,

1. Much of my reporting for American media outlets, which will be linked on my blog, will give hints as to some of what I cover -- Estonia in particular.

2. During much of 2007 and some of 2008, I traveled to each of these countries. I have conducted hundreds of hours of interviews with people in these countries and experts who know them better than I ever could. I am also doing my best to read up on the history and culture of these countries that I'm less familiar with.

3. There's some links in my del.icio.us account: del.icio.us/planetinternet that I'm using in my research, but any university library has some good books on the subject. You can also read my undergraduate thesis on the Internet in Senegal from 2004 here: http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~cfarivar/senegal/thesis_final.html

Very interesting. Thanks, Hamid and Cyrus.

Questions for Cyrus:

1. While we're waiting for the release of your book where can we learn more (besides your own blog)?

2. How are you conducting your research? Is it in partnership with an organization or university or are you undertaking it independently?

3. I'm always trying to learn more about the effects of internet penetration on developing societies. What resources would you recommend?

When will the book about the "impact of the Internet" in Iran, South Korea, ... be published? Or is it already available - and where? Would be nice if you could tell me. I could write a review on our online-platform www.nurart.org based in Berlin.
