Cuba: International Day vs. Homophobia

Cuba

“It'd be churlish to criticise Ms Castro's work on behalf of one of the most marginalised minorities in Cuba. But her ability to essentially whitewash the atrocious treatment of Cuban homosexuals over the past 50 years…is, well, breath-taking”: Child of the Revolution blogs about recent celebrations in Havana to mark International Day Against Homophobia.

  • The Cuban government’s policy these days it to leave LGBT people alone, a far cry from past policies and practices. Actually, Cuba’s policies towards LGBT people have been changing for some time.

Full English translations of extensive interviews with Mariela Castro and articles from the Cuban media explaining the importance for all Cubans of the island’s participation in the World Day Against Homophobia are all available here:

One example would be this two-page newspaper spread:

  • I wonder what Walter Lippman is going to do when the castro regime crumbles. Will he take the mantle of defender of North Korea or Iran?
