Lawyer and blogger raymiyatake expresses his doubts [ja] over the election of Japanese diplomat Yukiya Amano as director-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). First, he says, Amano was supported by only 23 nations out of 35. Second, he points out the difficult situation that the Agency is dealing with, at present, and the “unfairness” of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), which should be applied also to the five members already recognized as possessing nuclear power. Lastly, he suggests that instead of promoting a “pacific use” of nuclear energy, this should be replaced with clean energy sources (such as the geothermal or the aeolian ones).

In a country that is so much in debt, which is now unfortunately hit by the Cyclone, what do the generals have to fear, why are they not immediately allowing in aid which is unquestionably with goodwill of the world community? I see images of the gentle Burmese people on TV, and how much they venerate the Buddha. These people need help, and I think the generals would be well-advised to let the help in IMMEDIATELY to stave off disaster of widespread disease in the aftermath of the catastrophe their country has already suffered. My heart goes out to the people of Burma; I think we should all help them. I think their country could be a prosperous economy as a place of Buddhist pilgrimage, without imposition of unnecessary suppression. May God bless Burma; and may the souls of all who have died there rest in everlasting peace. The leaders there have the goodness of Buddha in their hearts - they must show it.
