It’s so funny.In 2005 Armenia said Turkey murdered 800 thousand armenians. Same year they raised the number to 1 million, and a year later, they started to claim that number of the death armenians were 1.5 million..
What’s that? Is it like armenians bad economy, it keeps raising?
When you search the archives, armenian population in Ottoman empire was 1.2 million. So, isnt it weird for Turks to kill 1.5 million out of 1.2???
here is the fact;
Armenians attacked Turks (when they were living in Turkish land) and this lead to a war between armenians and turks, 500 thousand Turkish died, and 800 thousand armenians. Armenians lost the war, and got deported, but those generals who deported armenians had sentenced to death.
Just because armenians lost the war, doesnt mean there was a genocide?
I wonder what would US govt do if Mexicans here revolt and kill 500 thousand Americans? Would they get deported as well???
Think one more time…
And pls dont get me wrong, I m not proud of the deaths of any side..It is a very sad fact..I hate wars myself. But it happened, and it was a WAR, not a genocide. Lets see the difference please..

Cem, my grandmother who used to live in East Blacksea region in 1915 lived long enough to tell me about the massacres committed against Armenians. I’m sure you can still find elderly people in the Eastern part of Turkey who witnessed these atrocities. We Turks have been spoon-fed with one-sided version of the history of our Country. It is time that we faced up to the truth.

Raffi, What are you talking about ? Which group is playing victims ? Open your eyes and look. Jewishes played victim since the middle of nineteens, with the support of hoooolywoooood, look what they have. you got me. Genocide can not EVEN discussed in Turkey ? Are you kidding with the society, search youtube and internet as “sözde ermeni soykırımı”. Then you will see lots of tv programs on famous tv channels. Search a little for Sweden or japan genocide, than you will find the answer to your question about DISCUSS. All discuss that you are trying to create to is JUST politics & geopolitics !

Cem, please take some time to think about all this before you continue to spread these hurtful lies. The Armenian genocide is not an international conspiracy against Turkey, it was the mass murder of Armenians. WE are the injured party here, so please, stop trying to play the victim, it is really inappropriate and continues the harm of the genocide into the present times. The fact that the genocide cannot even be discussed openly in Turkey should be all the proof you need that it happened. There is no more need to discuss the genocide with each other, it happened. Deal with it. We certainly have to.

Maybe a dialogue can be pursued if (both) parties would respectfully listen to one another, as well as realize that we can’t all live in the past all the time.

Otherwise, we would still ‘blindly’ blame Adam and Eve for getting us kicked out of eternal heaven. Or the Romans (and maybe the Jews) for ‘killing’ Jesus. Or the Pope(s) for the Crusades. Or the Spaniards for the Inquisition. Or the Russians for the Crimeans. Or the . . .

The Armenian genocide is a shocking, shameful event that somehow seemed to sidestep the media hounds.

It was long after the event I knew anything about it. And then, the first news was from one of my students who had migrated from Armenia. I could hardly believe him because I considered myself fairly well up to date with major world events.

Since those days, details seem to have filtered through to Australia. But the average person in the street still really knows nothing about it.

I agree. There should be a change.
