The Inauguration of Barack Obama, Our 44th. President

Today is beautiful, cold and snowy,
It is a day after the remembrance of our civil rights King;
Today is forever engraved in the history
Of America. This is the day that we all sing
And rejoice: an African-American will be residing,
At the most powerful house ever existed.
The ceremonies are more grandiose than the wedding
Of a fairy tale’s king, the history books are elated;
At last, the color of one’s skin is beginning
To be irrelevant, unimportant in today’s society.
This is a monumental step to the promise land,
This is a giant leap, this is defying the gravity
Of ignorance. “If you ask or demand,
You shall receive”; America is on her way to the mountaintop.
All of us shall overcome another beautiful day,
We are on our way; yes, we are on our way
To the highest point, we have one harder lap,
This will take us a little more time.
What’s so important is that we can see the light,
We can hear a different sound, a beautiful chime,
The sound of unity, the ring of the bell fight.
Today is beautiful, the invisible rainbow
Is upon us. Let blow the shell-fish horn,
The sound of freedom and liberty. Let’s bow
Our head and pray for America, who almost got torn
By the ignorance of men. We are on our way,
Because the struggle is not over, we have some unfinished business.
This is the beginning of a wonderful journey;
At last, we can get together to clean that mess.
Yes, we can, brother Barack Obama is our President.
We have come along way, we forgive but we don’t forget
The past suffering, the injustice and the constant
Humiliation of our human dignity. It is great to finally get
Together at this juncture of history. We are on our way
To the top of the world; this is a beautiful day.

Obama, you have a big family

More than 18 million proud Americans
                Voted for you.
Billions of your fellow men and women
Listened to your acceptance speech
               And watched you
                   Tonight.
    Obama, you have a big family.
You are writing and re-writing history.
Hillary and Bill Clinton unleashed
A barrage of truth about our current plight.
Biden, Kerry and others let the dog out
And all eligible voters shout:
    “Obama, you have a big family”.
Senator McCain is a good man;
Being a good soldier and decent;
He should remain in the Senate’s den
To help you govern and command
This great country. He is a good combatant;
He is going to understand.
      Obama, you have a big family.
The whole American family is behind you,
Some members just love secrecy.
You know how it is; nevertheless many love you.
      Obama, you have a big family.
“The dream shall never die”, said once, Ted .Kennedy.
Bama, the entire world is your family.
King’s dream is alive, that’s the American dream.
We are strong and united. You are like a beam
Of hope for a better tomorrow.
With your vigor and energy, there is no sorrow.
      Obama, you have a big family
Millions are waiting to vote again,
Millions are dreaming
Of you winning, winning
  The AMERICAN PRESIDENCY.
    Obama, you have a big family
You are already an indisputable winner,
You are already a great leader.
No matter what November will bring,
You will remain a sibling.
May God bless America,
May God bless you and the whole family.
You are not the panacea,
You are the head of the family.
    Obama, you have a big family.

Tribute to Aimé Césaire

One must be really like you from the native country to comprehend,
One must be truly like me from the tropical country to understand
And to feel at this very moment the stinging lashes
Unjustly burning the flesh of our ancestors to ashes.

One must be in our skin; one must have our blood,
And have walked under the hot sun of bad weathers
To understand the long moaning of our soul,
The suffering of our people and the miseries of our ladies.

In my heart, you remain, ad vitam aeternam, one of the fathers of negritude,
Which has inspired your children scattered all over
The world. Today, you’re gone and I’m sad. I still feel the iron collar

Of slavery smothering, strangling, and suffocating me,
And the kicks of the iron boots of this sad and inhumane history.
Brave Poet! Many thanks! May God welcome you in His Beatitude!

There is a saying that says 'philosophers have analysed the world, what remains is to change it'.

We are so good at paying tributes , but when it comes to contributing our own quota,we find all sorts of excuses.

The core of Aime Cesaire's works was African Renaissance.What are we all doing in our individual and collective capacities to follow in the foot steps of those we pay tribute to.

The much talked about African renaissance will not come about by wishfull thinking ,but by concrete ,practical and positive works

@yahaya ndu: Agreed! We should use forums and meeting places such as this website to discuss and share notes on how we can bring about that renaissance in the 21st century and perhaps even surpass it and create something much greater.

All those who hiod the memory of Aime Cesaire dear should demonstrate so by working to ensure that the African Renaissance becomes a reality.

Though an unsentimental African, I have always been moved by the passionate Afrocentricism of Cesaire's Negritude.Senghor no doubt reaped most of the political benefits of Negritude,but we know that the true founding and organising genius of the Negritude phenomenon was Cesaire. Not surprisingly, in my course on Black literature in French my students more readiliy identify with Cesaire than with Senghor. Cesaire was carved out of an original, hard -to- find- wood from the primeval forest of black consciousness.Adieu le plus grand
