Cameroon: Fraudulent dog sales

Ethan writes about dog fraud in Cameroon: “I mentioned to Stross a new scam I’d become aware of: fraudulent dog sales from Cameroon. Buyers are offered a chance to buy a pedigree’d pooch from an “AKC-certified” breeder in Cameroon – when the sale goes through, the buyer will be asked for additional fees, including travel insurance and vaccination fees. Needless to say, the dog never arrives. Message board posts on this topic make it clear that this is an increasingly common scam, and that lots of people fall for it.”

You should not put innocent people names here.I think this person is very innocent because i have adopted a puppy from him.

      • Krys

Exactly where do you live that you actually received a puppy from this “Nkwah Pius”??? He supposedly works at an Airport, now he also sells puppies too?? He is a scam artist, along w/Emmaunela Michels. They have fake email addresses where Western Union can’t track them. If it wasn’t so expensive for me to call oversea’s I’d call Customs & the FBI in Cameroon & press charges. I’ve emailed them & once they found out that I knew it was a scam, they won’t reply to my emails. He’s not innocent by any means!!!

I was one who fell for this. Buying 2 English Bulldogs. I only had to pay for the Transfer of Ownership from the owner which was $198. I asked if this was all the money I’d be out of pocket & he/she (Emmaunela Michels) guarenteed me this was it. Once they were at the Cameroon Airport, Nkwah Pius emailed & said he needed $860 for insurance for the puppies. Then when they so called got to Paris, France Airport, they needed $388 for an International Feeding Permit. But all this money was going to be refunded when the pup’s were delivered to my home! Well, I did receive a call from some man I could barely understand (language barrier) & was told they were at Atlanta Airport & would be flying to TIA (Tampa, FL). Well, the puppies were never in Atlanta or never showed up in TIA. This is all a scam. I did not pay the $860 or $388, but I did send them $400. I just realized I sent the money vis Western Union, but I did use my debit card, so I will be calling my bank Monday morning & filing a claim for fraud. Pls no one else fall victim to this scam. Buy your pup’s locally so you can actually see them first before you pay out any money!!

Oh My GOSH! I was so ready to pay these puppy scammers money to ship me a puppy that would never get to me. I started getting a little skeptical and told them I wasnt comfortable with it and they said to send half now half after I got him. I told them I didnt even trust anyone that much and he tried to get all religious on me telling me that I had no faith in people. I’m so glad I checked this out before I played into their scam. Thank you for posting this information.

  • Why would you pay for a dog from overseas when you can buy one from the country you live in presently? Only a fool parts with his / her money so easily. Feyman / 419 scammers are everywhere on the net these days, so unless you can see the good before your eyes prior to purchase, then don’t be surprised for the fall-out you get when you buy on-line from abroad as there are so many guys and women out there greedy enough to want to con you.

The law cannot possibly regulate the world so it is better for buyers beware attitude to preside nowadays…..TO MINIMISE THE RISK OF LOSING YOUR HARD-EARNT CASH….

  • thanks allot for telling me
because my little sister was about to buy one

  • Amanda

i was about to fall for one of his skeems and i am so glad that i looked it up cause i had a gut feeling that something was not right about that, and i so happy that i found this site. thank u for posting this site. i will never ever do this again not unless i can go in person and get the dog and meet the people.

My grandaughter saw an add in petfinders.com for a 10 week old Yorkie. All she had to do was send $90.00 for an updated airline ticket and the dog would be sent to her. She was so excited! I started questioning this add and what the person wrote back to her. I told her it was a scam but she would not believe me. But seeing I would be the one paying the $90.00, the person in Cameroon will not be getting my money. If people pay attentioin and question, you can not help but see all the red flags going up. If you want an animal be sure you can see it and hold it!

DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY. I’VE SENT $600 & HAVE NO PUPPIES. MY WESTERN UNION MONEY WENT TO A EMMANUELA MAWAH, SAME STREET AS ABOVE. ONCE THE PUP’S GOT TO THE AIRPORT, THEY REQUESTED ANOTHER $860 FOR INSURANCE. THAT MONEY WAS SENT TO THIS NKWAH PIUS, LISTED ABOVE. WHEN THEY SO CALLED GOT TO PARIS, FRANCE, THEY NEEDED ANOTHER $388 FOR SOME INTERNATIONAL PERMIT. I’M OUT OVER $600. I DID RECEIVE A CALL FROM GEORGIA AIRPORT & THE MAN (I COULDN’T REALLY UNDERSTAND) SAID HE WAS THERE IN GA W/THE 2 PUP’S. THEY WERE SUPPOSE TO OF BE FLOWN TO TIA (TAMPA, FL) TONITE, BUT THEY WEREN’T THERE. THE OWNER I’M DEALING W/IS NAMED: EMMANUELA MAWAH. DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!!!

        • Krys

DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY!! IT IS A SCAM!! I paid $601 for 2 English Bulldogs & they called me, gave me their address & phone number. They have people even in the US airports to continue to the scam. I had the Georgia airport call & tell me the puppies were there that I needed to pay MORE AGAIN! It’s all a scam. They show you pic’s of the pup’s & give them names then tell you they’re going to give it to you, you just need to pay transfer of ownership papers, then when they get to an airport, they email you & say they need more money. Trust me…bring local. In the long road you’ll save yourself money. If you can’t touch, feel the dog, don’t buy it!!

      • Sy Feldman

Yes, it is a scam. There is no puppy. All offers of pets from CAMEROON AFRICA are scams, without exceptions.

      • Krys

I SAW THE SAME PUPPY/DOG..LINA. AN ENGLISH BULLDOG? DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY. IT IS A SCAM. I’M OUT $600 DOING THAT. AT EACH AIRPORT THEY’LL TELL YOU THEY NEED MORE MONEY FOR INSURANCE & OTHERS EXCUSES. IT’S TO SEE HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN GET OUT OF YOU!! DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY PLS. I’M SO UPSET I SENT THAT MUCH MONEY, FOR 2 PUP’S & USED OUR MONEY TO BUY CHRISTMAS FOR OUR KIDS! ITS A SCAM…BIG TIME.

    • Krys

DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY. THIS IS A SCAM. I UNFORTUNITLEY DID SEND $600 & IT WAS TO THIS SAME ADDRESS, BUT A DIFFERENT NAME. I’M FILING A FRAUD CLAIM AT MY BANK TO PRESS CHARGES. AGAIN…DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY TO CAMEROON. YOU WILL BE MONEYLESS & DOGLESS!!!

  • maria

i dont think anything happens u just loose ur money if u dont get ur dog. lemme know if u do get a dog cause reading all this stuff online had be wondering.

  • if someone really wants to get a dog, there are thousands of them just waiting to be adopted in any shelter, in any country, anytime

dogs shipped on an airplane? for purchase? only the idea should be considered animal cruelty and against the law

nobody should “buy” dogs and even less in this way, even if it were “true” – IMHO
