狭隘、致命的爱国主义是东方文化的弱点。到现在许多中国人还没有意识到这是个大问题。例如中日足球比赛，足球就是足球，跟政治有什么关系呢？

Hmm...what does olympics have to do with Tibet?

Do you still not see the duplicity of your arguments?

Wei and Chan, 袁伟时，中山大学哲学系教授 I have read some of his essays,I think he is in a better position to talk about history than me.

ali baba,
No doubt we should learned from experience and history.
However, the background and situation is different now in 2008.
I can even compared Mao with President Lincoln, if I wanted to.
You can compare anything you with some other things as you wish.
Everyone has its good and bad, likewisw me.
Overall, we should see how much merits, agovernment has done and brought to their people.
Chinese government really done a good job.(looking at heavier weightage of the merits)
If you could spend some time compare the different between the East and West, may be it could help you to understand Chinese better.
It is naturally that everyone has a different in characters. When you understand this, you will learn to accept and respect people's culture.
The World is North, South, East, West, likewise the universe, we live in nature and we have to accept the nature.
Nature also brought disaster to human being but we could not hate the nature for this because it is also nature that feed us. Nature bring us more merits than disaster.
Since seem like you are so passionate about governing a Nation, could you tell me how you could rule a Nation in today situation ?
Anyway, like what I said it is always easier to say than done.
Mao had served his purpose on Earth for the Chinese people at that time, likewise all dynasty in the long history and Qin Shi Huang. May be at that time, they thought that that way is good for their people, this all nature.
We can't change the history, we can change and build a better tomorrow.

If one day, you are elected to be the Chairman of China, please remember you are dealing with all the people in your country, you are dealing with all the people in the World, you are dealing with Nature. :-) You are a creation of Nature..

Mr Racist,

The trouble with comparing with previous dynasties is that the world politics, Chinese society, etc are complately different.

Mao was compared to Qin Shi Huang before; and rightly so at a personal level as he shared pretty much the same characters, both strength and weaknesses. Like wise, one can compare Mao to the first emperor of Ming.

However, if you try to extend the comparison to the who of China, things fall a part. The make up of the Chinese society as well as its politics are very different these days.

Chan, sorry about the Dump Dump bit,is was meant to be Wei.

I would like you to read some of the blogs by 杜車别 ,the above link is to his blog.
杜車别 explains 明朝 history very well, and he tells us why 明朝 is ten times better than 清朝,and why 清朝 is all about savage and barbaric.Once you understand why CCP had never said anything bad about 清朝,then you kind of understand the past 600 years of Chinese history.

ali baba,
You really can't read me and understand me completely, too bad, I did not owe you any explaination, however I have faith that the Chinese Government and the Chinese people knows what suit them best, what is the priorities and importances.Regardless of Marxist Leninism, part of any other ideologies, part of democratic or Communist, or a mixture of both of them they could nake use of for better improvement. But definitely It take longer time for a Peaceful and Constructive change for more progress and benefits for the people.
Democratic must be the best, most importance and definitely could bring more benefits to their people??? I don't think so.
"It take Ten years to grow a Tree, it take 100 years to grow a Man."
May be it take a shorter time than 100 years for China..10...20 years, i really don't know...
I believe that it is the natural evoluton for China to grow and keep growing.
Few persons form a family, many families form a Nations, there must be common goals for all the people or members to strike for together in constructive manner. The government provide common direction, all the people provide the support to the good ideas and work towards a better tomorrow.
There are still many areas could be prior for improvement, it could be education, economics, health care, rebuilding (shichuan), justice system, anti-corruption, pychological defend, military defend, internal races harmony, foreign political relationship. Through improving these more important areas, the government will automatically gain more support from their people.
A dump man like me know that a quick sudden complete change in the government system is Not good idea for them. Anyway, this is just my dump thinking. :-)
It is always easier to say loudly than done.
Chinese know their best route to their destination. No more destructive way of doing things in hoping for better tomorrow.

Quote:Even my 68 years old mother outside mainland supported the Olympic 2008 Game. Unquoted

Beijing olympic is just an illusion to 收買人心 ,to BUY people's heart.Do the 民心 of 1.3 billion mainland Chinese support the CCP?
Well,if you click onto www.people.com.cn and go to 強國論坛 you will find out yourself.
A lot of bloggers there are calling complete change of the Communist system, and many of them are disgusted of the history of the Mao and CCP.But you have to read between the lines to decipher the real meaning.

ali baba,
"If the government lose the support of the people, they have lost everything. 得民心者得天下" ?
Do you think the Chinese government really know how to gain the support of her people ?
Even my 68 years old mother outside mainland supported the Olympic 2008 Game.
She was very happy to see China roar like a Lion.
I believed My grandfather sleeping in the grave, would be the happiest ghost after this show. ;-)
