@Rick: "The best solution is a Free Tibet. And it is possible only with a unified and coordinated attack by the whole world on diplomatic, military, ecnonomic fronts."

A very short time ago, a friend working in China was expelled for posting to a blog, information on ancient treaties between Tibet and China. He left the country under threat of arrest and is now appealing to the Chinese government to replace his visa. What is the purpose of such action if not to conceal information from those seeking informed opinion?

I don't see why national interests of a rogue communist authoritarian state like China to be more important than the the security of both the Indian and Indo-China subcontinents. China's reissuing a false claim on Arunachal Pradesh is proof of China's brute force "expansionism". If they cross the McMohan line and the Himalayas, it is good as writing off South and Southeast Asia completely. History is being created as we speak and if all the powers that be remain complacent and spineless in front of a belligernat regime of China, I have no doubt that it would be opening up the way for further Chinese expansionism into the Southeast, Pacific rim, Australia, New Zealand. They all have resources and will all be occupied or rather peacefully liberated states under China in a few decades to come. The best solution is a Free Tibet. And it is possible only with a unified and coordinated attack by the whole world on diplomatic, military, ecnonomic fronts.

The moment the Tibetan protesters started to act violent towards innocent people is the time when it loses all moral authority. As a reference think about any type of race riots, take the LA riot for example: Not many people are going to support blacks burning down stores or killing people, although blacks have been suppressed in the US for hundreds of years with many arguing they still are. By the same token, China's perceived discrimination against Tibetans (more like Affirmative Action for those who care to learn more about this issue) does not justify ethnic Tibetans committing arson, robbery, and murder on innocent people. Of course, the western media must prevent others from realizing this fact, so the western media discredit any type of blogs (both Chinese and Western) from tourists who are not overtly pro-Tibet as Chinese propaganda.

Dear bloggers,
The Media, any Media is very divisive. I have learned more from blogs, such as this one, about what is actually going on outside of my neighborhood than I do from what the Media wants me to see or hear, liberal or conservative. Brainwashing can occur the moment you put your sole trust into one news report, one ad about body image, commercials, etc. We in the west and the east must look for alternative outlets with opposing points of view and openly and safely discuss the issues. It would, however, be a shame to think that all people who receive the Media only perceive things in the way they are portrayed by their specific media groups. I personally take offense to this notion and know many who want to know the truth to situations outside of their origins to be able to share an educated opinions on crucial topics. I commend those who have sought out this outlet and those who have created a free space to discuss and hear firsthand opinions of those going through situations such as the current topic.
Peace

Dear chinese friends, what an uproar about unrest in tibet and the media echoe among chinese!!! A little less known fact is : there are several unrest violent or otherwise in china every year. They are put down just as in tibet by military force. Because the rural population is mistreated beyond all reason, they rise up. In that sence tibetans are not worse treated than chinese. You should know that written law and applied law are very different in china. Today, tibetans are systematicaly discriminated economicaly and socially. Only as second line they get jailed or tortured. This is modern china for a tibetan.

[...] Bothbloggers and twitter style posts (Fanfou and Jiwai in China) are reporting in real time on the events in Lhasa. Fanfou appears to be just such a technology that the Chinese government is not blocking completely. Some Fanfou users seem to be posting information the Chinese government might be sensitive about (such as “troops have now been dispatched toward Tibet. Wuhouci Rd. going both north and south have been completely sealed off…” and “Faint, it looks like we really are at war. Ximianqiao St and Wuhouci Rd. are all blocked off”, with posts like “For the most part Tibet related webpages are all closed” and “If Tibet is really rebelling, tomorrow we won’t be allowed to discuss this topic…” (both posted March 15). And posted on March 16: “Baidu Baike has locked out the term “Tibet” wiki has partially blocked the term” and “Can’t visit youtube, I wanted to see videos of the Taiwan traffic incident, Tibet incident, the UN referendum (in Taiwan), arggghh.” Translating and collecting these tweets has been the work of Davesgonechina as he encourages people in the West to engage the Chinese through Fanfou and Google’s Chinese/English translation tools.
(to moderator: anything inappropriate? if any, inform me)
This post should be prior to the last one, I don't know why it is not shown when i post it before.
---------------------------------------------
@ Tenzin:
About Tibeten policy, You made the accusation, Don't you agree that you should back it first rather than asking me? The whole world will know, know what?! Despite your little trick in language, I will tell you some facts in the next post, 'cause I didn't expect you to know anything authentic.

You think I'm brainwashed, Why? Through the words I posted? Most Chinese people are very easily brainwashed, huh? Who told you that? Are you a little brainwashed yourself?

No need to further reveal how twisted western media is, the youtube video sums it up very well. But this Der Spiegel article is beyond ridicule: http://www.spiegel.de/international/world/0,1518,542855,00.html

It quotes a Tibetan in exile: "We Tibetans can't take it any more," she says. "We don't hate the Chinese, but they don't treat us like humans. We can't show our flag and we are prohibited from keeping pictures of the Dalai Lama."

God help me, "we can't show our flag and we can't keep pics of Dalai Lama"--> "they don't treat us like humans"???

Where's the logic? Can they show some more reasonable and concrete evidence of their accusations?? Please

To Tenzin:
About Tibet Policy -- Instead of quoting from official statements, or anything with no authentic source, I'll say something that all common people in China know, which I think reflect the current policies.

1. Tibetens (usu males) can carry long knifes, even though China has strict knife regulation.
2. Tibetens have very generous affirmative action programs. (all minority ethnic groups have affirmative action programs, Tibetens have more)
3. Tibetens are less likely in prison or trouble if there is communal conflict between Tibetans and Han Chinese (majority in China) regardless whose fault it is as long as no independence things involved.

Chinese gov is easy and tolerant towards tibetens.

@ Tan:
Chinese are more eager and sincere to see some reform than any other people in the world. China is learning and changing, but it's not an overnight thing. Some people in the west should expect changes with good motives and patience.
---------------------------------
I don't think being a superpower will be one of China's aim. This may be mentioned by some western media or some immature youth in China, but most people in China just want to live a better life. For me, I hope China could develop or evolve in a stabilized and sustainable way.

------ Ding Zilin, Jiang Peikun, "Swear to fight for human dignity", April 18, 1994, China Spring, USA, June 1994

Note: Professors Jiang and Ding from the People's University of China are well-known human rights workers from mainland China. Their 16-year-old son, a high school, was killed by the People's Liberation Army on June 3, 1989. The two professors have devoted themselves since then to finding and taking care of the families whose family members died around June 4.
