I think what's very cool about tools like ushahidi and using 'sms journalism' is it takes advantage of communication channels that are already widely disseminated. Personally I think that in a country such as Kenya 99% of news should come from the grassroots as opposed to the 'educated, upper class, intellectual' news room style with political pundits who gained their education far from the realities on the ground. I am ecstatic that such forms of media and communication are only expanding as opposed to shrinking.
In regards to the people who attacked David Kobia of Mashada.com, I hope you have had a chance to visit Mashada recently and seen all the positivity he is putting out with his new site www.ihavenotribe.com

what you are experiencing in kenya is first of all very detrimental to the equitable distribution of resources. but its was emminent but we have either older tribal leaders who hide behind their tribal gangs.

afew issue to be sorted out: land that was grabbed or is possessed by people in huge junks should be redistributed i.e kibaki, uhuru, raila plus others like moi, biwott

civic education should be done to the affected areas and customized solutions executed...the kale, jengs plus other oppressed people should be researched and their grievances addressed

old bustards should leave leadership to their sons and daughters and not to wait till they are voted out. this is ann african problem

Kenya must get a smart constitution that makes the entire nation of 42 tribe all inclusive...kids of colonialists should know that leaders are in this country and their past advantage does not give them an edge over others

kenya will live on..and all in all people are owed security by their government, if the government can wait for violence to end for them to take action, then we seeing a backward trend in history

advantaged ethnic groups should know that enlightenment is to all and mjinga akierevuka mwerevu u mashakani..proud fellows, arrogant, poor malicious services, mother tongue everywhere is annoying - kenyans make the society just and weed out the evil guys
