Jillian:

Well, you shouldn't be repeating these generalizations that often promote (indirectly) prejudice. We need to avoid suggesting that the Muslim world is a monolithic entity and avoid tying every issue a country that happens to be Muslim encounters to the fact that it is Muslim. What is this blogger issue have to do with Morocco being a Muslim country?? I just don't understand it. If Morocco was fascist Italy from the 40s, I am sure its religious identity would never be brought up at all, don't you agree?

These things may seem benign to you but they really are not.

The current laws of Morocco afford the head of state (aka the King) to go after anyone accused of challenging its authority....this has nothing to do with Islam, Muslims or Muslim world...look at it as Franco of Spain or like the US government going after other foreign government they deem threatening to their interests.

Not really. Whether you like it or not, it IS often touted that way; my statement was accurate. I did not state that I personally feel that way. Who exactly are you arguing with?

The statement that "Morocco is often touted as one of the freest one of the world's majority-Muslim countries" is a simplistic statement and a representation of "western viewpoint" which tinted by prejudice on these subject matters ie anything to do with Muslims. What if Morocco was Venezuela? would you be reading the same "positive" notes? Obviously, not. Morocco gets "good points" in US media because the Moroccan government is a "strong ally" of the US government..ie the Moroccan government puts US interests above our own interests. Our interests only become important to US officials, Harvard experts and US media only when the situation threaten their own interests. Our countries and societies have become play fields for US officials and so-called experts (think-tanks, Harvard experts, etc) who have decided that only them detain the truth and know the magic solution for our problems which often are to blame in our religious heritage. For Venezuela, a christian-majority country, their problems are all caused by Hugo Chavez who dared to upset the "truth holders" of Washington and its think-tanks that feeds their imperialism, racism and contempt for others.

Yes, we need mind set change and blogs are shortcuts.Internet is here to stay and it is a time machine that let us get information at a speed. It is sure it's a shortcut to change. In my opinion,if these kids -who dies at our waters trying to migrate- were educated enough and somehow the internet is cheaper, they would never need to risque a dime or a life. The internet is a tool that our arabe LEADERS have no power to conrol,it is just arround the corner of every derb and in every citiy.

Muslims societies need to freedom their heads before freedom blogs.
Western opinion must understand that we are different and have a different values.
