I really feel badly for the kidnapped victims and their families and the fear we all feel of such terrible events coming to oursleves and our families. I hesitantly want to say with great respect for other people feeling who may disagree with me that I think anger at Peidad is misplaced. In Peidad's defence (regarding the photos taken of her with the farc) dilomacy is needed in all such events. Without diplomacy nothing will happen. I think a multifaceted approach is needed to resolve the problem of guerilla in Colombia-mostly a poltical-military-socio-economic response. I think Colombia needs to be critical but supprtive of its own leadership as well. Cooombia is a country in my view where there is so much confusion as to whom is a drug trafficker (lets face reality - the DAS, the our National Government,the mafia, guerilla, paramilitary all have an iron in that fire-its big money)so its too sim0plistic to point the finger of blame at one person although it is tempting to focus one's anger somewhere. We all have to become responsible ourselves. I reside between Canada and Colombia. The Philippine government has not given Mindano to "rebels." Mindanao is still part of the country. What the government did offer the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) is the Muslim autonomous region (ARMM) and 613 other Muslim villages scattered all over Mindanao Island - not to be carved out an independent country but to be autonomously governed by the rebel group's hierarchy but still subject to Philippine legislation. Thailand and Fiji are probably going to do the same. The traditional 'native' governments have been destroyed. Georgia has negotiated with two areas and this is happening in the old 'rose revolutions(not voiced no by the US)' governments.
