The netizen's conversation with the NEC sounds familiar. I asked similar questions when I posted factual public information about my court case against my former employer to show other people the process of going through getting unpaid wages and severance (a common practice by Korean private institutes).

I was put under CRIMINAL investigation for violating libel laws. When being interrogated at the police station, I asked similar questions, and they gave back the same answers, including the Google one.

By the way, South Korea is one of the few democracies left with criminal libel still on the books and actively enforced, which I'm sure is the root of the NEC tactics.

No, the reason the internet cannot be used is because it can be used to spread short term rumours that would harm a person's chances at an election. While rumours eventually evaporate, it may be too late for the candidate to salvage his chances.

Wow, isn't the role of an electoral commission to uphold democracy rather than spit in the face of it? South Korea's slipping back into dictatorship it seems.
