such are the positive developments that we all need to see and experience as we move on with the fight for gender equity. its encouraging to see that women are achieving alot not because they want to outpower or be equal to men, but because they have the potential to succeed in life. I personally see alot of Malawian women with great strength and vigor and with potential to spur social and economic growth. Of course we also need support from men, just as they do from us, as wives, mothers, sisters, colleagues etc. the most important thing is for both sides to understand that this is not a fight, what women are simply asking for when it comes to gender issues, is to be recognised for their efforts and be appreciated for the same. Of course i think Malawi is still a traiditional society for women, where marriage and family are still very central to their lives, but despite this, women have proved to be independent thinkers and daring. As a female journalist myself, i have interacted with hundreds of women, most of whom i discover, actually hide their talents for fear of intimidation or supression of some sort (this could be another looong topic). So for these female bloggers, Eunice, Pilirani, Penelope (my close friend and workmate "i salute you") and Stella, its definately a good move and alot of women journalists and those in other proffessions, should also put in their effort and come up with more interesting pieces and their own initiatives. Most of all, respect for each other is more important. When women succeed, lets all celebrate, when men do, lets do the same.

This is a welcome development especially in the developing countries where women need to be sensitized on their role in developing their communities. Lawa which do not favour women should as well be the integral part of this development.
