How could you possibly the defend the brutal beating of any woman for any reason? Thank you Rezwan for highlighting the work of activists who are working to put an end to domestic violence.

When I hear something like brutality on helpless women, I become really abnormal in anger, helpless not knowing what to do. If I could, I would instantly kill those brutes.

Thank you very much for telling these stories here.

we have lots of Rahelas killed, brutalized and traumatized in india almost every day but the very next day the headlines get dumped for the catchy ones.
one wonders why it is always a woman who gets killed for the suspicion or infidelity?
i simply feel horrified and speechless. May be the only way to rake up a social storm on the issue of domestic violence is to keep writing about such incidents. This may not bring about a change of heart but when nothing works the simple determination to keep talking about such incidents might show the way.

Justice for Rahela. Please sign the iPetition.

Rahela was a garments worker in Bangladesh (Shavar, Dhaka). She was gang raped and acid burned and she died after 1 month of sufferings. A hearing is going on in a local court of Bangladesh but the main suspected criminal is still not arrested and other suspected criminals got bail from the court. We want justice. It is a world campaign for Rahela’s justice.
Please sign on the iPetition by 31/12/2009.

I am from Bangladesh. Domestic Violence in Bangladesh used to be so worse like 30-40 years ago but it is decreasing rapidly with education. One of the reason is culture changed. Before, domestic violence wasn't look upon much but now domestic violence is heavily look down upon.

Thank you for this post and your passionate commitment.

Last night I sang at a Women's Empowerment Event and listened to some speakers. The theme was common throughout the talks - the difference one person can make.

Sometimes, we become despaired and we think, "What can I do? I'm just one person."

But that's what it takes. One person to care, one person to do something. That's where it always start - there is no other place.
