I must admit that I know very little of the Armenian masscare if any. There may have been one. But if you guys want to look in the eyes of the truth, have any whatsoever decent conscience why wouldn't you talk about the Azeri genocide when Armenians brutally killed a whole village of unarmed Azeris in Khodajli and then mutilated their bodies. We have all the proofs and videofootage of it. By the way I am a Christian Azeri. Come on, tell me to my face if you have any guts, any Christian morale. Why do you always want and want something that belongs to others. Christ said, "giving is more blessed then taking." You are not only willing to give anything to others but instead grab just anything on your way. Tell me!

Obama has broken so many campaign promises that there is a blog dedicated to that:
www.obamasgaffes.blogspot.com

Why would Obama know risk his popularity with 80 million Turks to do the "right" thing?? that is not Obama style.

The funny thing is that Pelosi is fooling Armenian community and she has been able to use Bush administration as an excuse for the last 8 years. Congressman Schiff is basically gets elected by Armenians in Glendale. Now they have no excuse ...they control all 3 branches. It will be interesting to see how they are going to spin this time around.

If this does not go through, Armenian political parties should stop endorsing any politician based on empty promises. They have to earn our vote ...

The resolution of Genocide vs. 'Genocide' was shelved today. It was never about that or Armenians anyway. I wonder if a deal was cut between the U.S. and Turkey so that Turkey doesn't violate American (the country formerly known as Iraq) soil.

Dreams of Kurdistan will have to wait a little longer.

I don't care about the "soul searching" so long as the truth is still suppressed, inside and outside of Turkey and successfully at that. And this soul searching does nothing to question the Turkish narrative of events.

Iraq is a separate issue; the USA is hypocritical now and they'll still be hypocritical if they recognized the genocide. However I think they're hypocritical for kowtowing to Turkey while making a big deal about Ahmadinejad being a Holocaust denier, hypocrisy can work a number of ways!

TO Onnik Krikorian:

Thank you so much for putting a link to my blog. My view is never discussed in the mainstream media or even the alternate media.

But please excuse me while I slightly go off topic, but it is only because NADIA made a comment above saying "randall if you want to be taken seriously maybe you should stop supporting 9/11 conspiracy theories."

TO NADIA:

Are you aware that the FBI's webpage on Usam Ben Laden does not mention 9/11? WHy wouldn't an attack that killed 3,000 people be specifically mentioned in Ben Landen's Most Wanted poster?
I discuss this issue here http://gettingtruth.blogspot.com/2007/09/where-was-osama-ben-laden-on-sept-11.html

Are you aware of the seven CIA veterans who want to challenge the U.S. government's official explanation of what happened on 9/11? See http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_alan_mil_070922_seven_cia_veterans_c.htm

Why don't the United States and Europe set the example by acknowledging their genocides.

It wasn't only the Armenians that were killed in large numbers. Read here about what the Europeans (with Americans' help) were doing in their former colonies
See http://www.brushtail.com.au/july_04_on/bombing_arabs_history.html

I suspect this is only a partial list and as time passes "mainstream" historians will investigate the atrocities committed by Western couintries on the third world

To Richard and Nadia et al,
I'm not sure what we are arguing about!
Yes, the Armenian Genocide happened!
Yes, it was a crime against humanity!
Yes, for generations Turkish governments and officialdom have denied it!
Yes, there are indeed laws (such as the notorious Article 301) making it illegal to publicly discuss the Genocide; the Turkish authoress to whom Nadia refers is Elif Safak, who mentions the Genocide in her novels; and, of course, author and Nobel-winner Orhan Pamuk; and Turkish sociologist and civil-rights activist Haluk Gerger, who has called the Genocide "the black stain on the Turkish soul" - I have a pen-pal relationship with Dr. Gerger.
But, a national soul-searching is happening at street-level (my daughter, born to a Turkish mother and living in Istanbul, is part of that; she is engaged to a PKK activist and she is a member of the TKIP, the Turkish Communist Workers' Party, one of many such organizations encouraging this process), and that must be acknowledged and applauded.
One of the only things uniting the Turkish Right and the Turkish Left (although, for totally different reasons)is: Opposition to House res. 106; that, and opposition to Turkey's admission to the European Union (neither wants to see Turkey become for Europe what China and Mexico have become for the United States: An impoverished ____hole supplying slave-labor and cheap products to consumer-nations!).
And, it is laughable that the American Congress, an aide-er and abet-er in Bush's war-crimes against Iraqui humanity, would dare have the effrontry to voice an opinion on the subject of mass-murder!
So, relax. Shakespeare (and Marx!) were right: The truth will out! Leave it to the Turks and the Armenians!
And, to Richard, Nadia, and the others: Peace, Love, and tie-dyed T-shirts!

James Dwyer, that the killing and uprooting of Armenians during WW1 was systematic and genocide is pretty much the consensus among academics.

<i>The Genocide is finally being discussed openly by a new generation of Turks.</i>

This is an outright lie. Turkey has passed laws that make "insulting Turkishness" illegal, this includes calling the massacres of Armenians a genocide. People have gone to jail for publishing books on the subject, a woman was even charged for writing a work of fiction in which the characters mention the genocide.

<a href="http://www.juancole.com/2007/04/detained-in-two-worlds-taner-akam-story.html" rel="nofollow">People are even subject to harassment and intimidation for discussing it outside of Turkey.</a> Turkish government lobbyists have been successfully stifling the issue for a very long time before they were calling for debate. That is the issue.

Metin, I'm still not entirely sure I follow you then. Why would this be a part of the US' aims in the Middle East when they rely heavily on their base in Turkey, and congress is now terrified that Turkish incursion into Kurdistan will hamper their war effort and many now feel the genocide resolution was a mistake? Not to mention the strength of the Turkish/Israeli relationship.
I find some of the things you are saying are irreconcilable with each other, I'm a little confused.

James Dwyer,

The Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust, Rwanda, and others were a continuum of atrocities. What distinguishes the Armenian case from the others is the effort put in to its denial.
