You summarized only half of that post. Why single out Japan?
W. David Marx was actually careful to juxtapose Kitagawa’s case with Lou Pearlman’s pedophilic case in the US. The conclusion is that in both countries media coverage of this type of guys with financial influence is regulated, to a large extent, by money interests of the media.
“Suppressed” is too strong of a word with unpleasant connotations. This word would be more accurate to describe contemporary Russian media, for example.
Thanks for pointing that out. The truth is that I am not really familiar with Lou Pearlman, as I don’t listen to that kind of music, but have heard things about Kitagawa over the years, so it just caught my attention. I didn’t mean to single Japan out, and I suppose “suppressed” was a bit too strong. Regulated is probably a better word, but “regulated reports” sounds a bit strange.
