to Paul:

hope you are still reading this forum. I'm a filipina married to a white man and he suffered same stuff as you did..Foreigners getting tarred by the same brush because of action of few white men who are on sex travel to countries like Philippines'. Like yourself and my hubby are getting disrespected not by many but few under privileged , ignorant....not their fault but because poverty denied them an education and a better life. I don't patronize my own countrymen, this is just my opinion and my best understanding. And I tell you, most of them who've shouted those F*** words hardly knew the meaning or why they say it, some of them say those words to get your attention and have friendly chat. Thick, but yes! In fact, as I always tell my hubby, Filipinos like foreigners not only of what they can contribute to the country but also because of the colour of their skin. In fact some families adopted your language as their mother tongue whether be at work or home in Philippines. I live in Europe now, had some taste of your own bad experience, but there is a difference, here they are more vile and full of hatred. And these people are young and young in mind deprived of a better life, living under handouts...Your expedition is better than mine.

Sorry for the late reply, I don?t check my backup email account frequently.

My number is nominal GDP per capita, not PPP. In a global economy I believe nominal GDP is more important than PPP as you can?t buy crude oil with Philippine peso but US dollar. The 1950 numbers are from http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/eco_gdp_per_cap_in_195-economy-gdp-per-capita-1950

On a similar note, Japan?s 1950 GDP is 1,873.00 and $34,104 in 2007

"Hi, Dennis Traje, I am a Chinese from Taiwan currently living in New York City. I don?t know much about the Philippines but it seems my previous point is valid. Look at Philippines and Taiwan?s nominal GDP per capita over the past 50 years.

Philippines? GDP per capita in 1950 $1,293.00
Philippines? GDP per capita in 2007 $1,815.00

Taiwan?s GDP per capita in 1950 $922.00
Taiwan?s GDP per capita in 2005 $15,153.85"

mark:
"uhmm pei i just want to ask where did you get that information on GDP because as i can recall tawain ranked 24th and philippines ranked 46th below singapore which is 45th just curious. and its
GDP - per capita (PPP):
$3,300 (2007 est.) go it in world fact book not 1,800
so check your sources carefully"

Filipinos are the most bigoted, racist people that I've known. Filipinos measure beauty by the color of the skin. The fairer and whiter the more beautiful. So what's the fuss over Terri Hatcher?

Terri Hatcher, scriptwriters, producers, Hollywood types know whereof their talking about. These people patronize Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Hospital of choice by celebrities in Los Angeles. 85 to 90% of hospital staff are bickering, snickering, squabbling Filipino nurses and support staff that wipe asses, clean kitchens and latrines. This Filipinos compare their Corollas with fellow Filipino Corollas who has the best Corollas. Yeah, no kidding.

Filipinos bash and look down on Mexicans (only good in the farm and mostly mechanic), blacks (lazy), white americans (as don't know how to write english and bad spellers). So that lives Filipinos the greatest.

They come to the United States and not showing the greatness. Not one Filpinos mentioned in business magazines. According to a Filipino apologist, business magazines is a popularity contest. Very bright, intelligent funny uninformed answer. Shows they don't read at all.

They come to United States and bash them for loose morality. And they come anyway to reap what the loose moralities has sown.

Filipinos are BIGOTS, RACISTS AND PURE HYPOCRITES AND IGNORANTS.

IF YOU ASK ME WHO I AM? I'M A FILIPINO. BORN AND RAISED IN THE PHILIPPINES, IMMIGRATED TO UNITED STATES. NOW, I'M EMBARASSED BEING A FILIPINO

Hi Pei. Let me ask you the same question. Are you up to it and do you feel that you are equal to or superior to anyone? If you do then I'm pretty sure that you are a foreigner because it is intrinsic for Filipinos to be meek, humble and quiet unless villified. This frenzy over the ABC's brouhaha is but a natural reaction for people who felt aggrieved and not a question of equality nor superiority. No less than San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom attributed the questionable phrase as " irresponsible and degrading " complimenting the fact that these kind of statements are no longer acceptable in this time and age. Such rhetorics run smacks of the olden repressive era which only bred deceit, contempt, revenge and murder.

It would amaze you to know that 20 years ago we stand at a national level of 68% literacy level to ultimately ascend to at least 90% today which more or less tells you why Filipinos of today shout more, picket the streets more and longs for justice more. Learning and understanding the concepts in life and appreciating it more are the very tenets of education. If we choose not to speak up nor stand up for what we believe today, then I would think that whatever education we have earned for ourselves would have gone to naught. We ( Filipinos ) may not agree among ourselves in most occassions specially on subjects like politics, religion, governance etc but it will be entirely a healthy debate for we are now practicing the skills we have learned in school. But for another race to say anything against us will be a slur or casting aspersion which is entirely wrong.

We are working on the eventuality that we may be called an "EQUAL" that is why we are striving our utmost best to learn something from our schools. At best right now if we can't be called equal, we are trying to get the attention of the world through the high court as there are plans of suing ABC. If the court agrees and the suit wins don't you think that there will be a lesson learned from this situation? If it loses and the issue ultimately dies wouldn't you think other people or institutions will have second thoughts on saying disparaging comments again? Either way I see that this is an eye opener for all of us and all of us will emerge as a winner including you. We need not be a China nor a Japan to be heard and we certainly don't need a bone to make us feel that we are equal after complaining, but we do have that dignity and tradition to fight back when the pride and glory of the Philippines is at stake.

There are two ways to gain equity. One is to develop oneself and force others (the self-proclaimed superior) to accept one as equal. This is the route East Asian have taken and the reason why Japan, Korea, Singapore and China are viewed as competitors to the West.

The other route is to complaint and sues and march down the street demanding something call "right/equality". The self-proclaimed superior might throw you a bone and let you off thinking you are equal.

Which route to take reflects the culture's self-respect. If you know you are equal you will develop and match your competitors. If you think you are equal you can sue and hope that the court agree with you. Development takes a long time and lots of resources but you will get true equality and respect. To complaint is much quicker, all you have to do is not go to work and march down the street. The result is short lived and no one will really respect you but for some it is enough.

How about it Filipinos? Are you equal or do you think you are equal.

Yes, I think I have to agree with what this guy says on his blog:

http://asbb-foreignexchange.blogspot.com/2007/10/final-word-in-desperation.html
---------------------------------------------

I will end my commentary on the whole issue by simply asking why we think it is perfectly alright for us to do this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QusLouQhEfo

and this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDQJGIFzV1Q&mode=related&search=

and even for one of our most respected politicans to say this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBEuhLlNYTY

but when anyone dares to poke fun at a segment of our population like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYB4H0Po0A0

everyone immediately cries racism and discrimination?

As an American of European ancestry who has lived in Hong Kong for more than 25 years, I am very familiar with the thousands of Pinoys who labour away as domestic "helpers" in Hong Kong. They are often treated very badly by their Chinese employers, and have little recourse when their wages are withheld, are forced to work in their employers factories, etc. However, they have proven to me that they are decent, kind and warm people who deserve better. Now I learn that ABC television in the USA has decided to revile Pinoys on its programme "Desperate Housewives." This is totally unacceptable and the network must give a broadcast apology at once....their written apology is an insult. They must retract their slur by reaching the very audience that heard it in the first place!
