Português: Brazil: Clarice Lispector no YouTube...

The Spectacled Bear comes across a fantastic adaptation of Clarice Lispector’s Tentação (Temptation) on YouTube and leaves a piece of advice about the Brazilian/Ukrainian writer: “If you haven’t read any Clarice Lispector/Giovanni Pontieiro yet, this video might just inspire you to get to the bookstore.”

  • It certainly did – I just ordered two Lispectors from Amazon.com (and even though I don’t understand more than a smattering of Portuguese!).

I’ve been meaning to explore Lispector’s work ever since I first read about her in Caetano Veloso’s book.

  • Hi, Georgia!

Thanks for your comment, :) There are some Clarice Lispector in translation, I found a few of them on Amazon (But definitely, she is much more interesting in the original Portuguese). To have a good start, go for The Hour of The Star.

  • Thanks, Paula. I guess I was reading your mind, as “The House of The Star” is one of the books I ordered, along with “Selected Crônicas”.

  • I’m a big Clarice Lispector fan too! It’s great news that she’s becoming more easily readable to non-portuguese speakers now. But i MUST agree with Paula that a lot of her magic can be lost in translation. I pray for the inspiration of the brave souls that dare translating Clarice Lispector to other languages. :)
