I feel sick to realize that so many children have been and are sexually abused. This is a gross violation of the rights of the child. A crime. Pedophiles should be given the death sentence. They don’t go to jail and if they do they go for a time and they come out and commit the same crimes. Governments have to take a stand and communities need to get together and do something about it now. If we don’t, who will? Children have the right to live in peace.

Child abuse and child molestation in maldives is Big. There have been incidents where small boys have disapeared in Addu Atoll where famous and well known pedophiles were blammed but no official investigation was done. The idea of banishing someone for abusing a child is stupid because it amounts to giving him a free holiday to abuse other children elsewhere. As long as child abuse in maldives gets a voice other than that of the govt there wont be a change in the figurs.

Be prepared to be labelled as ‘moakulhi’. In fact, the moment that you mention your homosexuality, I think the crime committed against you would pale in comparison to the disgust they feel towards you.

I have to raise some objection to what you said about your being gay is ‘not by choice’. Does that mean every victim of pedo-catholic-priests turn out to be gay, especially boys? I think not. I am not inclined against your personal sexual preference. Just that, I don’t think that its so readily apparent that your preference for sex is caused by your abuser- perhaps you feel that way because he made you think you like men. Something for you to ponder on.

That said, you have my deepest sympathy.

My sympathies to you. Why we need to talk about it and why you need to shout for justice is because justice doesn’t come to you. You need to go get it. Moreover, the current situation is that the abused are embarassed and scared. Not the abusers. We need to change this trend. Call them “pedos”. Shout and make them be embarassed. Keeping it secret wont help us.

I was abused at the age of 5 by a man and till today I suffer due to his abuse. I am gay not by choice…but due to child abuse. I hope people would realise the seriousness of child abuse on boys while talking about girls being abused. Lets stand up to stop this. Someone said that abused children such as myself should speak out – and then what? Be labelled and ridiculed by the beloved people of this nation? Do I trust majority Maldivians to understand me? Or do I expect them to name me in their over the coffee gossips to past away their times? Its clear that most people wants paedophiles to thrive here, that’s the reason why it is so prevalent!

The minister Aisha Didi has to resign just like the Attorney General and Justice minister has done in the past few days. Just like the former Attorney General Hassan Saeed has said, it is impossible to bring in reforms under a government led by Gayoom. Gayoom is negelecting the children . It is no secret in Maldives but the BIGGEST and WELL KEPT SECRET from the international community. The current government of Maldives does things to appease the international community not for the children or for the country’s benefit.
