Watch Morocco next september where a "Muslim-Democratic" party is expected to win. The party's name is "Justice and Development"... the same as AKP!

Leadership is an essential ingredient in any country's politics, and one in which Turkey has been lacking for some years now. AK Party has shown good leadership in some really tough times in the past. We can see the result of lack of leadership quite well with the Bush man in America. Yes, I agree with Metin that too many people here have been taught how to follow but not lead. It begins in school where they have no opinion but that of their teachers.
Nevertheless, parliamentarians and politicians alike must be educated, skilled in diplomacy, and well-versed on the history of a country's internal and international problems and issues of yesterday, today and tomorrow. What will be the problems of the next generation? How can they create ways to stand up to the issues and resolve the problems? Do they have open minds or are they closed to anything new or different? Lets assess our new parliament and parties in these terms to see what will shake out in the future. Congratulations, Turkey! The best years are yet to come and I stand ready for positive change.

AKP's mandate coupled with the consistency factor of no longer pretending to be a mainstream party will have successful consequences for the future of Turkey . . .

. . . Only if they (the Turkish people, as well as the AKP) take advantage of the situation and lead by example.

. . . And bring along more reforms, along with 'real' democracy.

Finally, confine the Generals, the so called 'protectors' of secularism, to handle the defense of Turkey from (and not let them become a tool of) outside intervention.

In my top 10 list of things AKP should pay attention to in the first 100 days, I even have mentioned of a possible high-level cabinet position for Mr. Baykal (of CHP) in exchange for his stepping down from his party's leadership.

Not to worry though, in a couple of years after a disastrous divisiveness within the CHP, Baykal will be asked to become the leader once again, much like Yilmaz and Ciller are being sought after nowadays.

Leadership must be a lacking quality in a nation of followers I guess?
