First off, Brazillians often root for Cubans – when they are not playing Brazil. The referenced article places all the blame where it belongs: Cuba, a nation of 13 million people, keeps beating Brazil in nearly every big match-up. This is a simple case of home-field sports rivalry – but Cuban-Americans have to make it political.
Now, the negative response the US has gotten has a lot more to do with politics – and a big blunder at the beginning of the games (writing “welcome to the Congo” on a Rio blackboard for all to see).
I think countries like Mexico, canada and Brazil need to do something about it. Come on, cuba 2nd place! A country with almost 12 million people getting a second place since 1971 calli and not counting the first place they got back in 1991 Havana Pan American games.
