Siberian Light writes: “I suspect that the people of Sochi are especially pleased by their victory. As well as all the business possibilities opened up by their victory […].” Megan Case quotes a Russian friend: “If I wake up tomorrow and Sochi has been chosen I’m going to hate Putin even more. Russia is a huge country with one tiny piece of warm sea coast, where the whole country goes on holiday, and they’re going to take the last bits of untouched nature there and build elite […] cottages.”
Ukrainiana, Kyiv Scoop, and LJ user igordaily (UKR) write and post photos and video from this year's commemoration of Holodomor, the famine of 1932-33; Nash Holos writes about the National Holodomor Awareness Week in Canada. Natalia Antonova reflects on a recent visit to Babi Yar.

Puhlease,
I do not think this Russian friend of yours was on vacation lately. For the last 15 years the whole Russia goes on holyday to China, Thailand, Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt… anywhere really but Sochi.
Though many Russians do travel abroad these days, the Black Sea is still popular as Russia’s only real beach resort, especially with those who are less affluent, and I know plenty of people who have gone there recently, including this very Vadik.
I am especially appalled how Russian activists were treated while they were peacefully protesting in Moscow against the Olympics in Sochi.
Here’s the nasty video footage:
