It saddens me that in this day and age situations like this can still occur. I follow what is happening to Zimbabwe every day and try to understand what is going through Mugabe's head as the people of Zimbabwe suffer. Why is it taking so long for anyone to do something to sort it out before more people die of disease or malnutrition? If the answer lies with surrounding African countries, which I believe it does, then please stop appeasing Mugabe and do something positive to reverse this situation. It beggars belief that polticians are still sitting round tables trying to broker peace between Zanu PF and the MDC when people are dieing. I wish you well people of Zimbabwe but I am not optimistic that there will be an early solution.

Six years ago, I was in Zimbabwe and heard many of the same comments from Zimbabweans as I hear now. When is something going to happen? Lets face it, if limited sanctions were going to have any effect they would have done so long ago. Fundamentally, Mugabe is secure. Secure because of his Shona tribal identity, secure because of the army, and secure because he has lots more money and resources than any possible opposition. So what are Zimbabweans going to do about that? Sit around and die?

Zimbabweans seem not to remember about the past. I come from Matebeleland was arrested in the mid 80's for standing up against ZANU PF. I was a supporter of PF ZAPU. When we people of Matebeleland were punished by Smith, Muzorewa, and Mugabe with his gukurahundi, guys like tswangirai did no see anything wrong about it. Bet to them it was just a process of erradicating the Ndebeles.

Now that the tables have turned everybody is saying this and that. Who trained the 5th brigade and other deadly units of the army? Now cause it's nationally then this outcry. At least they are blessed cause people are not 30 000 people were randomly killed and raped etc. Remember what happened in Tshabalala, Nkayi,Tsholotsho to mention just a few?

All that is going on in Zimbabwe makes me so sad and at times upset. Being all the way in NZ I feel like there is not much that I can do even if I may want to help.

[...] Zimbabwe’s bloggers have a wealth of information on the week that was in the troubled southern African country. There are reports of more arrests and torture, an emergency monetary policy statement, and an indepth look at the myopic bigotry of some in the west with regard to Mugabe. First however, a look at how South Africa’s increasingly complicit role in Zimbabwe’s crisis came back under the spotlight last week. (more….) [...]
