Hello.
I have only just discovered this blog through a friend of mine. I'm a Sierra Leonean working with the Environmental Foundation for Africa, headquatered in in Freetown. I have travelled extensively during the past couple of decades and am aware of the growing constituency of Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora and the important role they can play in Sierra Leone, now going though a transition. I am very pleased to discover this blog and hope that I can contribute meaningfully to the on-going conversation about Sierra Leone. Please do not hesitate to ask me anything. Looking forward to staying in contact. For those who are interested in issues related to the environment and natural resources in SL, I encourage you to visit the EFA website: www.efasl.org.uk and the website of the Green Actors of West Africa Network:www.gawa.nu
Lets stay connected

Just another reason why language is powerful, and why colonial history still is relevant today! A lot of these blogs are by Americans on missions, and I personally also know someone from North Carolina who did aid work in Sierra Leone. This involvement is owed to the interesting history of the country (a country whose roots go back to American slaves, similarly to Liberia) and of course the language - English.

Unlike Robert Mugabe, who demands money, and not involvement, I think most Africans are just thankful for the participation of inhabitants from developed countries (ex-colonies or not) and are particularly excited by the advent of ICTs, as it is clear that these will only increase the contact.

I had no idea there were so many people blogging from Sierra Leone! Welcome Vicke and I look forward to reading your posts.

I spent a couple of months in Freetown back in 2004. It was my first time in Africa. It's hard to find news on what's happening in Sierra Leone because the international media rarely covers the country unless there is some story having to do with Charles Taylor. This will be a great way to stay connected!

First Vicke welcome to the Global Voices community and it is great that someone at GVO will be editing news and posts from bloggers writing about Sierra Leone. Thanks for highlighting the blog of my friend Bimbola Caroll of VisitSierraLeone.org He has a great website that is full of information and publsihes a very professional monthly newsletter. Bimbola also manages a growing global Sierra Leone online forum community at VSL.org and feeds interesting articles to his blog. Thanks for pointing us toward the work of other people writing about this small but important West African country. Good luck. Sierra Leone: Klein aber Fein!
