There are some mainstream international media outlets which regularly feature balanced news from Africa. I think Global Voices is a great example of this. [...]

I agree for what you have written, to me elections process in Nigeria was totally like a cinema play in Holywood or in Bombay. To sleep with box ballots at home, fighting and violence all this shows that Africa still have a long way to go in this known as the real democracy!Africa Africa until when will we starting to understand ourselves that all people are equal and have right in leadership!May be in one thousand years to come!

[...] Basi wakati uchaguzi huu ukifanyika na hata wakati wa kampeni mimi nilikuwa naeleza macho kwenye teknolojia. Nilikuwa natazama jinsi ambavyo teknolojia ilikuwa ikitumika. Jana nikatoa makala kwenye ukurasa wa GV (kuanzia sasa nikisema GV ujue ninamaanisha Global Voices Online) kuhusu teknolojia na uchaguzi nchini humo. Makala hiyo, ambayo imeandikwa katika “ile lugha yao”, inaitwa: Blogs and the Nigerian Elections: Will We Stop Talking About Our Cats And Shoes For One Day?. Bonyeza hapa uisome. Jiulize, je tunapata mafunzo gani ambayo sisi wanablogu na wanateknolojia tunaweza kuyatumia nchini kwetu? [...]

Thanks for this very comprehensive and well-written roundup about the CJ (citizen journalists) coverage of the Nigerian elections Ndesanjo. This is the type of coverage that makes what the team at Global Voices and the support from your contributors worldwide so darn important. This is what participatory journalism is all about at the dawn of the 21st Century.

One thing is for sure, it may be that the ruling PDP party and all kinds of dubious characters in Nigeria have stolen the right of Nigerian voters to honestly and transparently choose their political leaders in these elections, but they were NOT able to silence the voices of the people worldwide and they were NOT able to hide the Truth about what happened. How they are going to be able to govern Nigeria successfully and parade around the international community as a legitimate authority representing the people of Nigeria after this escapes me.

Nonetheless, I hope and pray that the post-election legal challenges and protests are conducted in a peaceful and legal manner. Please, no more violence and killings. Follow Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s example of steadfast but non-violent resistance to injustice.
