The work you guys are doing - making this story available to non-Chinese speakers - is absolutely amazing. Everyone has a story but not everyone has someone to tell their story for them or a way to tell it themselves.

Also, giving to Chinese Red Cross should be fairly standard. Red Cross is Red Cross, but I'd make sure you mark it. Otherwise, it will go into a general fund.

Hi Bill, I'm sorry I can't answer your question about how exactly monies donated will be used. Perhaps you could try leaving a message on Li Yuanyuan's blog. I'm also not in a position to say anything about the Chinese Red Cross, although two things I notice: a Google search of their Chinese name seems to suggest that the actor Jet Li has some relationship to the organisation, and that the word Chinese on their English site is spelt 'CHNESE'

Thanks for your comments, Jacque and wingman. I went back to Ms. Li's blog and found this information: Sohu [the blog provider] has set up a blog group to raise money for the Chinese Red Cross, to be used exclusively for Gong Jingyong, and that the CRC will soon make public all related information.

thank you for bringing this out. the chinese blog lists a couple of bank accounts under the name of the chinese red cross that are accepting donations specifically for these kids. i am wary (sadly, from experieince) of charities in china. do you have any idea if this money will actually be used properly, as we would very much like to donate?
