Anticipating Chavez's upcoming visit to Haiti, Roody Edme writes [Fr]: “His arrival requires an apt diplomatic dance… The recent American decision to list the country as a nation that might possibly benefit from the ethanol project echoes Caracas' decision to make us benefit from the Petro-Caribe clause … While we want to avoid always hiding in “American skirts”, we also should not act like rebellious children. “

Haiti is in a very interesting point. For once we are of, if not a strategic,a political or geopolitical interest to the United States. They want us on their side and on thier team. We are important thanks to Chavez and we should take full advantage of this. In the coming years, both Caracas and Washington will be spending vast amount of money and paying us alot of attention. If we dont use this to our advantage to get our economy on the path of growth, we will all know that there are no real politicians in Haiti!!
because president chavex stopped by to see how we are doing and to promess so very good help to Haiti. now washington is making the move, they should have made long time ago. See the US dont want other country to come close of Haiti, but when Haiti is lonely they act like we are nothing, I think president preval need to contact other countries live iran, syria and cuba talk to the leaders and see how they can help us.You would see how the US would butter us when we have those connections.
To read what actual Haitians, who gathered in large numbers in Port-au-Prince, had to say about Chavez’s visit then read this article by Wadner Pierre at http://www.haitianalysis.com/2007/3/19/ch%C3%A1vez-and-venezuela-duty-not-charity-to-haiti
