I am a Cambodian girl and I am also a university student. I am really proud of myself that I have an opportunity to continue studying at university because I am a girl who live in the country side. However, I think it is not enough to me to this world. I want to go to study in the developed country to see how they develop their country and how their lifestyle is. I want to those experience to improve Cambodia become more developed. I also want to show Cambodian society that not only man can develop Cambodia but woman also can do .Girl and Boy is equal.

Dear Kalyan

I came across your article by accident and I find it is very interesting. I am very happy for your accomplishment and that you are a very determined person. We need more young woman like yourself, who is sincere and a good citizen to the country.

Last year my friend went to Cambodia and married a woman from Cambodia. He never married before in his life and he went to marry a woman mane Mouy Chhung he sponsored her to Canada. She only got to Canada just one day and she already start a fight and wanted a divorce and she told him that she only used him to come to Canada. After one week she left him. She is the most wicked witch from hell, very manipulative, very calculative, very vicious, very evil and does not care about anyone, but herself only. He paid for every things for her and at the end she stabbed him in the back. Her and family used him to just to come to Canada. She is young and healthy, but she is lazy to look for job, she would rather go on welfare. She use people to Canada and then threat to kill him and abuse the system in here. what kind of a person is that ?

i came across your blog by chance on the internet last year. after having read your blog i found out that your are such a great lady and cambodia really need this kind of people like you to help build the country. I am a freshman at Medai Department and Communication of Royal University of Phnom Penh. Your educational background is really interesting, and not many Cambodain students could have done lkie you. I who am dreaming most of the time about how to get scholarship to study abroad usa, ukau and stralia don’t know much about the to way to do, but after having read your conversation between you and tharum I know some. May you tell me how can I find exchange program or peace scholarship as you did? Please help inform any educational information to poor cambodian like me; not only bong Kalyan are invited to inform, but also anybody are welcomed.

Dear Kalyan,
My name is Sothon. Afer i have read your interiview, it makes me so proud of you. You are a lady but you even have strong-will any the others. I have some question to ask you that related to study abroad especailly scholarship. I just interested in studying abroad, however, the requirment is very hight that i feel not so confident to apply it. One reason is that i am not outstanding student, but i do want to be one day. Now, i want to improve myself to be good. Now, first thing i should do is find out how to get started.

I am proud of your accomplishments in Cambodia, especially with all that has happen their. I was born in Cambodia during the Veitnam War but my family was lucky to get sponsor by a church to come to a America, so I have been in the state since I was 4 and don’t remember much of Cambodia, and bearly speak the language only to parents cause they still don’t speak English.I have 3 sisters and a bother, and all my sisters have accomplish something, degree in crimnal justice, other one double major in accounting and english, and the other successful in her job as for me I’m in the Army and excelerating in the ranks, so I’m doing well, as for my brother he’s not doing well.
My parents expected alot from my brother because he was the only boy but at the same time was not that strict with him, traditional Asian culture. It is true that you do have to work hard to achieve what you want and I feel that alot of Cambodians here in America take the easy way in life, I grew up living in a Cambodian community and alot fall into the pattern of life that surrounds them. I went to school with alot of Cambodian students who were more smarter than me and stuck to the books but once they graduated they end up going backwards instead of forward, you can keep Asian culture and tradition without setting yourself back, alot are married not legally, have kids and are on welfare,and don’t expect anything else when they have all the resources their, but if they were in Cambodia they would be working harder to make something of themselves. My parents still go back and forth to Cambodia, I have never gone back,I would love to but fear that I would not fit in, I can bearly speak the language, and don’t know much about the History, my parents pushed us to succeed more than teach us of our culture, I am married to an American, and have two kids, its hard for me to teach them the culture and language cause I don’t speak it that well, and being in the Army I am not around alot of Cambodian people so I’m slowly losing it.I would love to visit Cambodia one day with my family, and teach them the culture, I wanted to write because it was so good to see an email from somebody from Cambodia, so I hope we can continue to email and hopefully one day we will meet.
