I am glad of this project and proud it will be tested here in Brazil. It is a great tool not to give the same educational opportunities as "first world" kids because same opportunities is not necessarily good. What this should be is an empowerment tool to give many people the freedom to search a vast amount of information for a much lesser price (books here are so expensive and public libraries ridiculous) and produce information. Gives people more opportunities to learn. It is indeed extremely important to create a program to educate kids on how to use such a computer or else orkut, Brazilian's internet fad, is also it will be used for. It is great that OLPC can empower people who would otherwise be voiceless...BUT it has to be driven by content, i.e. here is a problem and the laptop helps to provide part of the answer. The user interface is indeed so different from PC or MAC that I see a lot of training issues...no-one wants to be locked into a new interface that is only seen on one kind of laptop.
