India: Women and The Cosmopolitan
India
An interesting (doubtless that it will be controversial) way to look at women's empowerment. By looking at back issues of the Cosmopolitan! Kamla Bhatt writes “Now, comes the important $60 billion question. Has the role of women changed or is it just a cosmetic change that we are witnessing in India? They have a quote from Urvashi Bhutalia, a well-know feminist who says that the changes are at the moment confined to the cosmetic level.”

It’s very difficult to come to a conclusion. Because I have found that parameters are far too many. Even education is no full guarantee that all will be well. I have found many cases where in the uneducated at a far respectable standard of living and conduct than some educated. May be other parameters cancel out the advantage education bestows.
In general, I guess, standard of women have improved. It’s just my feeling, I have no numbers to back up.
