Some history today from Buenos Aires. The upcoming renovation of the downtown opera house, Teatro Colón has inspired Jeff Barry to to begin a series on the history of opera in Buenos Aires. eBlog, meanwhile, points out that today is the 30th anniversary since the debut of Diego Maradona [ES] with the Argentinos Juniors.

    Hi Jerry,

I have been doing research on my family’s background for the last two years. Two of my ancestors were opera singers who sang at the old teatro de la opera de buenos aires. Is there a published chronology about the performances at the teatro de la opera that you know about? If you dom please let me know. The two singers that I mentioned before were jose and valentina mendioroz, father and daughter. He performed at the teatro in 1877. Valentina sang in 1898 and 1900, this last time with caruso. However, I suspect that she performed at the teatro de la opera in other ocassions.

    Thanks,

    Luis
