Belarusian opposition leader Aleksandr Kozulin has been sentenced to five and a half years in jail for organizing protests in Minsk following the March presidential election. Vilhelm Konnander writes that “the now sentenced Kozulin remains somewhat of an enigma to most analysts.” Iryna of Belarus Blog posts Kozulin's final statement, which the judge didn't allow him to make in the courtroom after the sentence was announced and Kozulin called the judge “a ‘hangman' and the politician’s supporters started chanting ‘Freedom to Kazulin'.” More on Kozulin's trial is here.

The Russian Coordination Center for the new national Cyrillic domain .RF stopped the application process for new domains. Anti-cybersquatting measures turned out to be infective and the center plans to review the rules of submission process, Russian news agency Prime-Tass reported [RUS]. It's not clear what will happen to the registered domains. Some sources claim that all previously approved domains will be deleted.
A new law “On Ensuring Access to Information about Activities of Government Bodies and Municipal Authorities” [RUS] will require, among other things, creating public Internet terminals all around Russia. But netizens question [RUS] the feasibility of the law.

I thank Lukashenko for this. Kozulin has destroyed hundreds of lives and now he is a freedom fighter? He calls himself a professor of mathematics but he has not published a single research paper. How could he become a professor? Throughout years he sent hundreds of people in jail, I am one of his victims. I do not know much about Lukashenko, but thank you for jailing this monster!
