Trinidad & Tobago: Weathering unpreparedness
Trinidad & Tobago
Jeremy Taylor writes about the confusion that ensued in Trinidad on Wednesday over reports that a tropical wave was crossing the country. “Hardly anyone is prepared for serious wind or water,” he notes. “The media put out reams of wrong information. The ramshackle infrastructure of poles and wires and rusty galvanised tin roofs c ould be wiped out by a small gale. People still think that Trinidad and Tobago are “outside the hurricane belt” and that “God is a Trinidadian” who deflects storms.”
