I was not only once married to an Iranian man but had many Iranian female friends. Nowhere else in this world have I seen women wear as much makeup as Iranian women...anywhere. The women I know and knew lived in North America and most had left Iran just after the Shah was deposed so they had grown up in a privileged era in Iran.

Iranian women love makeup...it's not because men only care about beauty. I think there's also an insecurity about being exceedingly hirsute and dark. Add the fact that so many Iranian women have nose jobs by the time they're 18 and it tells all. They grow up feeling unattractive when compared with much of the world...those who are fair.

Conversely, Iranian men or at least those that I've known, spend inordinate amounts of time on their appearances and showing off 'brand' names. They also splash copious amounts of cologne all over their bodies.

Persians just put a lot of value on appearance...those that I've known and it's quite sad.
