Thanks Elijah. I looked up google for info on bahraini and saudi bloggers who were jailed...not sure how long ago. Didn't get any good results. Any links you can recommend?

It's a good question, Preeta. Bloggers don't get computers in prison. They smuggle out handwritten posts with visitors, who then go home and post them on the jailed blogger's blog.

Maybe its a lame question - but I don't understand how bloggers get access to a computer and internet when they are in prison. If the government knows thaat they blog against the government, wouldn't the first logical thing be to forbid them access to a computer and the internet? Well, it's interesting to see how freedom of speech is trickling out through blogs - but I've had this query for a long time. Answer anyone?

Actually, Alaa is not the first person to blog from prison. In the USA, Vernon Lee Evans is blogging from death row, waiting to be executed for murder. He hand-writes his blog entries and has them posted from the outside, which is what I understand Alaa is doing.
