The Belize News Blog is reporting that the Comptroller of Customs is refusing to talk to the media about what appears to be persistent corruption among customs officers working on the Belize-Mexico border, who have been accused of confiscating loads of contraband goods and reselling them to local merchants. The flow of illegal goods into the country has skyrocketed following the introduction of higher taxes by the Belizean government.
