I have trouble imagining that the current Iranian elite allowed Ahmadnejad to be elected. Iran historically has played the (big) political game very deftly.

I wonder if the West had a role in bringing Ahmadnejad to power. Some have thought that the West was somehow responsible for bringing Khomeini to power...I don't know how these things work, but I wonder.

Ahmadnejad's existence is an excellent excuse to invade or wreak whatever havoc...

A New Yorker article a year or so back wrote about Iran and how picking the Iranian plum is the big dream of Pentagon generals. Already, the US has established itself in Afghanistan, Iraq, in the Persian Gulf, Saudi Arabia. It has/had bases/advisors in Turkey, Uzbekistan, Georgia...

It is really sad that ultimately the average person ends up suffering here...

I think the nuclear issue is not the issue. This is really about something else, about deeper issues. A Big (very expensive) Game.

I agree with your point on the Media but BBC has a worse record.

But Iranian government is totally endangering its own people and the world community by insisting on enriching uranium.

The thing is that the world doesnt trust the Mullahs and that is the point. They are not responsible to the world community!

But yes, a free and peaceful Iran has a right to nuclear power but until then nukes should be kept away from Iran.

Thanks

I've considered blogging about this myself, but the key points are quickly lost in all the political BS... Iran does have the right of a sovereign nation to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. To date, I haven't seen a smoking gun that they were doing otherwise. That smoking gun has to be produced... but smoke obscured a lot in the invasion of Iraq, and when the smoke cleared, the gun was pointing the wrong way (and still is).

On the flip side, the epithets coming from Iran's 'leaders' aren't giving anyone warm fuzzies.

As far as the BBC, well... it could be worse. It could be Fox News, or CNN... :-)

Since when BBC has become a true representative of the Iranian people's voice?!
It is somehow a biased source...
but unfortunately due to the misinformation run by the Islamic regime, most people in Iran take pride in the dangerous nuclear program which is bad.
