This article is incredible. Thank you David. It's awesome to know that people are aware of the problem Puerto Rico is facing in terms of Rock music and that support is our only answer. I'm part of an amateur garage band and it's extremely hard for us to have our voices heard. Music here is way stereotypical and to find popularity within our island we have to strain a little from hardcore rifts and rhythms to get attention. Good news is that rock in Puerto Rico isn't going to fade completely, in fact we had a Indie Rock Festival not long ago. I believe that the only way that we can make a huge Rock Scene in Puerto Rico is by joining musical forces and slowly get the \cacos\ hooked by playing innovative music and use more and more hardcore influence as time goes by. The process will be dull and slow but this is music were talking about the most versatile thing on the planet. We can provide the general public with the music they enjoy using our rock roots and do hardcore songs on the side for the devoted fan. Who knows? Someday people from the general public will understand what were doing and like it and move on to harder songs. That's my theory, sorry it was so long I just felt I should share this with people who are after the same goal as me. In my opinion (feel free to comment on it) this is the only way and all that's left to do is act so Puerto Rico may someday be the Rock Spot we all dream it to be.

In Guyana there's also a vibrant rock scene like Trinidad, not as many bands but never the less a few that's been around awhile. It's hard to get any kinda exposure here since the only music that is huge would be hip hop, dancehall, r&b etc.

Here's the link to my band myspace page, you can always check it out and leave a comment telling us what you think of the music http://www.myspace.com/struckroot

Hey, my 40th b'day is on June 17th, but I'm looking forward to jam with any of these underground bands, be them pop, metal, whatever, for a one-time only deal. I'm willing to set up a rehearsal space, garage or similar for Friday, June 15th, somewhere in the San Juan Metro area (preferrably Rio Piedras). I have NO money to set this up... will pay in liquor, so to speak, but that's not the point. The point is just to make some decent noise, and have some fun. If your tastes range from Mötorhead to Mojinos Escozíos, from J&B to Van Halen, anything that is not too serious, bring your instrument and amp over and let's demolish some eardrums(!) Think Spinal Tap, not Slipknot.

It was announced today that Richie Sambora is not going to play the guitar. The reason given was "rehabilitation". Another guitarist will play in the concert.

The concert was moved to coliseo de Puerto Rico Jose Miguel Agrelot, all the arena tickets are sold out but there are still good seats available, the concert is no longer a music festival, now is a full bon jovi concert, that means they will be playing lot more than an hour.

The truth is the concert tickets are too expensive. I would like to see Bon Jovi live, but I cannot afford the cost.

Glad to hear there is this type of event on the island, but Bon Jovi, though once a supergroup, is not considered
cutting-edge anymore. Were they the "draw" for the festival? That is a depressing thought. Maybe they needed the money... Question is, why can't more interesting acts be lured out there if folks have to pony
up 250 bucks for decent seats. Hell, that's a week's salary for many Puerto Ricans. Makes me think some cynical s.o.b. thinks that's all we deserve, but alot
of us are alot more knowledgeable about the rock scene
than is known.

Well, I'm flying down from the States, so I'm hoping Bon Jovi is playing more than one hour. Nonetheless, I've never been to Puerto Rico and I'm excited to go check out Old San Juan, the culture and the beaches.

Glad to hear others are making the trip from outside Puerto Rico. My wife and I are traveling from NY for the weekend. I can't think of a better way than hanging at the beach all day and then listening to 6 hours of great music.

This Carlos guy is a bit misinformed. 60 minutes is just a contract thing all the daddy pants musicians have. I work for a five star hotel in the US and we have a guest who flys in Elton John to play for "one hour" at a million dollars for a private 100person party. Now Carlos would lead you to believe that for a million Elton just cruises after an hour , I know first hand that just isn't the case. All I can say is me and about ten of my friends are spending airfare, hotel and the $250 for tickets just to get down to sweet PR and hang with the bands. If you don't like the show don't go, but don't ruin everybody's good time. Peace

Carlos, you are crazy! One of the hottest acts in the world is coming here and you are disrecpecting this show? For your information, Bon Jovi is performing mostly outdoor only festival style shows. So get your facts straight buddy and go enjoy the show.

Puerto Rico loves rock, but us locals refuse to be taken advantage of. Bon Jovi is playing here as part of something called the San Juan Music Festival which is being presented by some promoters who we never heard of. The problem is that Bon Jovi is playing for ONLY 60 MINUTES-just one lousy hour and without their normal big scenery and lighting. The other six bands are either the usual local bands, or bands from the states that nobody here knows. They are asking us to pay $250 for the decent seats and for some unknown reason, it's being held at that awful outdoor garbage dump called Hiram Bithorn Stadium, otherwise known as the "Rain Bowl", or better yet, "Toilet Bowl"! Why only 60 minutes and why Bithorn when we now have the new indoor Choliseo arena where the Stones, Aerosmith and Van Halen performed? There's no way me or any of my friends are going to pay $250 to hang out all night at that garbage dump, enduring all those other bands and then only getting just ONE HOUR of Bon Jovi! Who are they trying to fool? We think this festival is a ripoff and shows disrespect to the rock community in PR. We're not going!

Hello to all, I live in Puerto Rico and Im a guitar player and a great followe of the puerto rican metal scene. And yes we really dont get the respect nor the support we need. Many people just dont even listen to us and already say were not even a genre of music. We got more talent in one finger that most people got in their entire body, for example as a "caco" to play a solo on any instrument...he`ll say: "solo? whats that?". You consider them more a musician than us? We are real artist and we should demand to be treated like that. Thats why rockers dont support Puerto Rico, becuase they dont support us. thank you for reading this and have a good day.
