The answer lies in the fact that the Scandanavian countries were never exposed to the ceremonial (false) pomp that came along with the Brits. Somehow the folks in power in this part of the world continue to adhere to that. Our waderas/jagirdars/politicians and bureaucrats love the false importance attached.

I can recall two incidents regarding The late Swedish Prime Ministar Olof Palme. The late Zulfiqar Ali Bhtto had invited him for a return banquet during his official visit to Sweden. Mr. Bhutto was waiting for a while for Mr. Palme to show up and was visibly aggitated. When Mr. Palme arrived walking up to the entrance of the Pakistan Embassy in Stockholm, he apologized for the delay as he had to park his car in the parking lot of the embassy.

It is a part of history now that Olaf Palme was assassinated as he was walking home with his wife after watching a movie. No halting traffic on roads, no motorcade, no body guards...just a man and his wife walking home.
