Malaysia may be economically sound but is it developed? In education University of Singapore has surpassed University of Malaya, although the former was part of the latter in the early 60s.The reason for that is simply because of the government's racially discriminating policies which contravenes Article 1(1) of the International Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.Malaysia has not ratified the convention and refuses to allow its Chinese and Indian citizens at birth entry into places of higher learning like MARA , Malay College and imposes quota systems at the University of Malaya. As a result and I feel sorry for the Malay population who have gained entry into these places on the basis of race have no competition. As a result this has led to a slide in the education of Malaysians across the board. In saying this I add a caveat that there are many Malays of high academic calibre but those come from overseas universities.English used to be a major language in Malaysia but alas that is not true anymore. While China and Indai are making great effort to learn the language our students have failed miserably over the years. Its a terrible tragedy which the government has to take blame.Of course the laws of the land dont protect the electorate but the elite Malay who run the government which is another example of being undeveloped because there is no freedom of speech in Malaysia. Finally corruption in all government departments including the Courts and the Police. From what Malaysia was at the time when Tengku Abdul Rahman was running we are slowly becoming like a banana democracy like Zimbabwe. If you think that we are not heading there , wait till the oil runs out and we will still be hanging onto the Petronas Tower, Cyber Jaya,F-1 Racing circuit and the former PM's house-the white elephants of Malaysia.
