[...] P3P (page 3 people) is an old-age term now. ‘Blogger’ is in. So if on one hand the term got popular, on the other hand the fights between bloggers became more prevalent. Realistically speaking, the addition of the word to English dictionary is not that new. Blogging existed since 1994 but the word became more widespread as internet became more and more popular. RediffBlogs played a big role in getting blogs accepted in India when they came up with their blogging platform. I still remember early days of 2003, when I somehow landed to this blogsphere and met lot of interesting bloggers from India and other parts of the world. The popular blog sites during those days were Typepad, Blogspot & Sulekha - to some extent. Movable Type (MT) came after that, followed by Wordpress. The trend of owning a space to blog was on the verge of getting accepted and has become very common now as more and more people realize the impact a blog can make. Different controversies had their role in awakeing the Indian blogosphere, like IIPM Case, where one Blogger had to quit his job at IBM, and another blogger Verma got a legal notice. Consequently, bloggers like Kaps took the initiative to fight against IIPM and the other bloggers added fuel to the fire by blogging more. Different kinds of issues and calamities also helped, in a way, bloggers to blog as much as possible. A lot of us are already familiar with Desipundit which is omnipresent with the best of Indian blogs. Blogging is about posting huge amount of information (bloggers’ views, blog readers comments and links to connects with rest) on any issues - from a C grade film to “Why bush did this”, “Tsunami causes” to “Mumbai blasts victims”, “home fights” and “love stories”. The presence of a good repository of poems and photography (Flickr that made the life easy for every Digi cam holder) and the existence of myspace and other social networking sites on the internet made life easier for avid bloggers. And with all this Techo guys became more geek and non-techie became more technically sound.I remember when I attended the 1st Delhi bloggers meet in early 2004, there were around 22 bloggers (almost everybody in the group turned up for the event though it required a lot of effort). One of our meets got some coverage in the newspapers and we were on Times of India. Another DBM meet last November saw a Times of India journalist to spy on what do actually bloggers do in these meets. I believe few items in the agenda were to find out the most popular blogger or to find out if only software guys maintain blogs. From that time to till date almost 12 meets have happened. The number of bloggers attending these meets falls down number of times. Our last meet that had 3 people from BBC gave our group lots of popularity and made many bloggers to attend the event. This gave birth to a new concept - of calling a guest (someone quite known) blogger in these meetups. For example, in this 12th DBM Joshua (also member) was expected and around 22 blogger turned up except him.I was absent this time. And when I asked people about the meet, a few (without taking their name) told you did not miss much. And at the same time, I read reviews with people saying, “absent bloggers - you missed a lot”. But how can I forget a statement by a blogger friend, who after attending the last meet said - I am not going to come for such events in future. It’s always the same. So the question is when there is a popularity of such event, people love to be part of bloggers meet even though internally they feel its more like a socializing meet. And you expect to meet new friends and on getting chances, you mingle up. There are a few bloggers who write to impress their girlfriends or make a impression amongst their friends’ circle. There are others who do a more professional job to prove their technical superiority over others at their work-place. [...]

I have been looking for a place to voice some of my rebellious opinions on the way the Govt. of India runs the country and I found this site. I will make use of it :

First on the reservation issue for OBCs. This govt and the old timers in the Ministry especially Arjun Singh are super-grade mental retards. They have gotten used to enjoying the benfits of seniority by age, in the age-old stupid Indian way. The youngsters should reject such people and their opinions outright and look for fresh thoughts.

The Ministry of Finance of P. Chindambaram and Company thinks he is doing an excellent job and that he is the best guy in India to do the work. I differ in opinion. I used to read stories during my childhood of Kingdoms which were in dire circumstances because the people were excessively taxed. It is very easy to run a govt. by taxing people more.

The government always wants to show its kindness based on someone elses private money. For a change why doesnt it try to do better with whatever resources it has.

Are we really comparing IIM's to IIPM??

We need to keep just one thing in mind, that the standard of an institute's reputation is built but by its students not by its faculty. The fact that the IIT's and IIM's are considered one of the best is mainly becuse of their students, and people like Rashmi or Gaurav, who are IIM grads and that they have taken on the might of the media by their simple blog further proves the point....

Also it shows a lot about IIPM and its students, when they can't even post a proper blog, without shouting or screaming...

Another point that needs to be made here is that it wasn't necessary for Gaurav to leave IBM, and if he's left IBM, then propably he wanted to change his career and wanted to become a full time journalist ... so no pity, sympathy, or support is required for him. Let's remember he's an IIT grad aswell a grad from IIM .. so there must be a lot of companies bending over backwards to hire him, as far as Rashmi is concerned she's already made a name in blogsphere... so Rashmi is to blogsphere what Arindam Chaudhury is to IIPM.

Both are two sides of a coin.

And let us not compare India to China and Sigapore, as far as free speech is concerned, or for that matter freedom is concerned. India gives its citizens all the freedom possible, so its easy for people to claim anything and everything (like for example laying claim to the Taj Mahal, as some people have done!!).

If this were China or other authoritarian rule people would have been in jail by now.

So please don't jump around saying that there is no freedom of speech here... We don't need a lawyer to tell us that we have freedom of speech, the very fact that your and my comments are here is proof enough.....

At the same time its good that that people have spoken about these institutes, who promise the moon and deliver its mere image....

IIPM TAKEN TO TASK

people, here is the latest on IIPM and other fraud institutes who are cheating students and their parents out of their hard earned money. AICTE has said this on record that it is not authorised to run these courses. here is the story...

AICTE raises objection to courses provided by IIPM
THE All India Council For Technical Education, AICTE has raised objections to 36 private Indian institutes offering technical courses in collaboration with foreign institutes. The institutes include the high profile IIPM and Rai business schools.

2005-12-13 19:33
IIPM advertisement claims that its students get additional MBA and BBA degrees from International Management Institute of Belgium. Rai Business School makes a similar claim. Its advertisement says students opting for MBA plus course would get additional degree from European Management Institute, Switzerland. Merit International education foundation, Ooty claims to offer degree from Chardonne Business School, Switzerland. Similarly, Pune's IIMT offers MBA degrees from Girne American University.

Vice Chairman of AICTE, RA Yadav says,” All the four institutes are running programmes with foreign collaborations. The ones that I mentioned, they are not approved by the AICTE. They are not authorised, which is illegal."

AICTE came up with guidelines on foreign collaboration on May 15 this year. The guidelines state that no foreign institute can offer degrees in the country without its approval. Indian institutes already doing so were given time of six months to comply with these norms that got over on 15th of last month. AICTE says it has not granted permission to any institute to offer foreign degrees.

AICTE says no institute can offer foreign degree without its approval. Council has been issuing notices to these institutes, and it remains to be seen what further action it would take in this matter.

Council has been issuing notices to these institutes, and it remains to be seen what further action it would take in this matter.

hell,
i just saw comments from Mrinal, a student of IIPM. dude, your language, grammer and sentence construction speaks a lot about IIPM. I rest my case. I dont think i have to say anymore. And, yeah I adopt Gaurav's and JAM's comments. Please feel free to take me to court. I can do with some legal action right now. Please treat this as an open invitation to take me to court. I will prove to you and your 'Arimdam Sir' what freedom of speech is all about. Actually i am not surprised by your use of language, I read some 10 pages of his "count your chicken...." book and it didnt take me long to figure out what a fraud and scamster his institute and he himself is. My invitation still stands......

let me assure you as a lawyer that this is clearly protected by Article 19 (1) (a) of Freedom of Speech and Expression of the Indian Constitution. If the concerned individuals petition any court, their rights will be protected. Please do not blow this issue out of the proportion. IIPM, in my opinion, has gone senile and if they had concerned any lawyer, he would have told them to forget about such moves. There was no requirement for Gaurav to quit his job. It is an action taken in undue haste. He should not have bothered about threats from IIPM since he has not done anything wrong morally or legally. India can in no way be compared to the treatment meted out to bloggers from China or Singapore. Please also take note that Indian Government was not involved in any manner whatsoever. Such actions by third grade institutes like IIPM are stupid corporate bullying practices which any court would throw out with costs. If anybody faces any such hostile action from IIPM types, feel free to contact me. Lets show these suckers what freedom of speech is all about

wheather it is iipm or gourav, why arent we thinking about iim alumini who r fleeing to US rather than being in india.why dont they think to become employers rather than being an employee. why dont they think that just getting into a big company and earning hand full will not make any contribution to indian economy (other than paying hefty taxes) rather they should plan and evolve themself by becomming an employer, setting up his/her own company in india. if every one in iim gets employment in big company then when will be the next ambani or ratan tata to emerge in indian soil. govt of india thinks that by giving quality education through iim, they can see many new ceo in india. but the things r differnt. in iipm i think they make research in indian economy and then they apply their academic theories in that to bring more positive soln, which is not implied in the iim. and i want to say that i m not a iipm or iim student. i m an engineering student. please dont criticise any educational institution unless and untill u got proper proofs and real facts.

The comments of the students of IIPM are self revelatory. Look at their english and their expression.

The whole event reveals the power of collectivity in a space like the net.

The whole story has a lesson for all of us. Do not get mislead by peronalities who depend on advertisements and cheap distortion of facts and make them icons. In India we love adulation. We never check them out critically.

An educational institution resorting to distort facts and have a self perception of being great thought how could some small fries take them on. But they were proven wrong.
