Why do you call them “hilltribe” girls? Do they call themselves “hilltribe girls”? Or, is this a phrase others use?
“Hilltribes” is the term used often in Thailand to describe indigenous tribal populations, not unlike the use of Montagnards in other parts of SE Asia. I would have preferred to have called then Akha, Lisu, Hmong Shan or whatever their exact tribe was, but when I asked them, they replied in English “hill tribe.”
