The complexity of Philippine politics along with the showbizzy, star struck, and popularity contest predisposition of the electorate majority was, unfortunately, not the landscape with which a dyed in the wool no nonsense politician like Raul Roco could hold court. Therefore, the country is the less for it. He was a paragon of the many highly qualified Filipinos who simply could not successfully penetrate a political system desperately crying for genuine, well thought out, trickle down reforms, since the trade off would have been too great, short of martyrdom. It's indeed a crying shame that he was never afforded the opportunity to prove his mettle. Consequently, the pervasive status quo of self destructive governance remains all too real. God Bless Raul Roco and our beloved Philippines !

Heartfelt condolence to his bereaved family. A great, great loss especially in this time of too much turmoil in the Philippines where all the corrupt politicians from the times of Marcos and Estrada would like to surface again for their own vested interest.

Raul Roco was a great statesman. His words spoken and written as Philippine public official were the only one you can confidently quote as coming from genuine intelligence, integrity, honesty, and credence. He has left an eternal torch that gives light to future leaders.

The Philippines unfortunately has very few Roco's in government.
