[...] Similar questions came up for example after the London bombings or with terrorism in general. And although many bloggers in the Muslim blogosphere do oppose to terrorism, and although there is a lot of confusion as well, many other people do not seem to notice it. Some people might present themselves as being moderate, but they seem to lack support, resources and credibility. What seems to be necessary also is a genuine and unconditioned disapproval of terrorist attacks. [...]

THREE CHEERS FOR AUSTRALIA

I wish the leaders of our country would take a stand like Australia

Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that Australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament.

"If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television.

"I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that is false. If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to another country, which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option," Costello said.

Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship could possibly be asked to move to the other country.

Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off".

"Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off," he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.

AMERICA and Canada..... ARE YOU LISTENING?

Quote:

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians.

However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Australia.

However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand.

This idea of Australia being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Australians, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle.

This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, Learn the language!

Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push but a fact because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, Because God is part of our culture.

We will accept your beliefs and will not question why, all we ask is that you accept ours and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.

If the Southern Cross offends you, or you don't like " A Fair Go", then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet.

We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. By all means keep your culture but do not force it on others.

This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this.
But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, "THE RIGHT TO LEAVE".

If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.

Pretty easy really, when you think about it. I figure if we all keep passing this to our friends (and enemies) it will also, sooner or later get back to the complainers. Let's all try, please.

PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO EVERYONE, PERHAPS WE CAN CREATE A GROUND SWELL AND SEND OUR POLITICIANS THE MESSAGE THAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF US BELIEVE AS THE AUSSIES DO.........

Ooh, loved the impassioned posts on this thread. I can only say I'm glad so many Westerners have finally woken up to the threat posed to our civilization and way of life by Islamic extremism. There are certainly moderate Muslims and Muslim men and women of conscience, but history has shown that unfortunately, they are typically too powerless to control the scary, stupid, atavistic elements in their own society. It's a bit like your decent, well-meaning, but weak-willed neighbor who can't seem to be able to control her monstrous, obnoxious, ill-behaved children. Saying "We condemn the violence, condemn, condemn, condemn" ad-nauseaum is not going to have any effect anymore -- we know that Muslim moderates hardly count for squat in their own societies. Depending on them to help control the spread of terrorism is nothing but an exercise in wishful thinking. Finally, as an ancestral ahderent of a peaceful, non-proselytysing Eastern religion, I rejoice in the fact that the Muslim ummah has been so successful so far in shooting itself in the foot. May the process accelerate.

Fundamentalist Christians who support unquestioningly the tactics and mentality of Israeli extremist settlers - who use terrorist methods all the time against the Palestinian population to drive them from their homes (like shooting at homes, burning crops, poisoning the milk supply of shepherds who make their living from milk & cheese products) are also supporting violence. And take a look at what is happening in Iraq -- no violence? 25,000 Iraqi civilians are dead! What about torture of innocent people at Abu Ghraib? Have you heard about the children who were raped there? Are there Christians who support that or turn a blind eye to it and let it be buried?

As a Christian I am always disgustingly reminded of the fact that in our self-righteousness we fail to see the BEAM IN OUR OWN EYE!

Injustice and violence are propagated on all sides. IF you are a follower of Christ then you must take his teachings seriously and look to the beam in your own eye first and correct the injustices you commit against your brother - at least if you want to be in a relationship with Christ. For a Christian it's not supposed to be about pointing fingers at everybody else.

As a Londoner I can't believe some of the distorted views on this site.

Londoners have lived through the IRA terrorism for years - part funded by Americans. So all these people who talk crap about Christians being non violent and not killing children - Omagh......

Although I have been raised as a christian, I have lots of lovely muslim friends. Why do you attack all muslims - I bet you don't know any!? These weird fundamentalists are not a religion- they are psychos. London is proud that we can exist all together. There has been relatively little backlash against muslims here.

Ps Why do Americans think they live in a democracy- they are completed brainwashed by their biased media.Ps I actually like Americans - but just feel there are a few that are completely ignorant on world issues.

I was scared not scared to death but for afterwards for the outcome of what I will say will do to the people or beliefs of people.
Any way I am willing to pay.

I believe I believe in a religion that ecceps anyone in that can say
I believe in god and prophets.

I therefore cannot tell who is Muslim. I also cannot tell what to do to the Muslims
I also do not accept any one teaching me what to do unless I ask them to.

There cannot be a religious authorty that can say this or that

I also belong to nation that acceps anyone in by just calling self as a Turk

There is nobody but god can forgive and judge me for my sins.

God is most merciful.

These are the base of my belief it is not mostly routed in any scripture but in the base of our social life.

In any fight (or war) there need to be at least two sides.
One need to stop being a side to be a seperator and or a peace giving party.

But what I am feeling by the way both sides speaking is that I belong to the other side.

Even with the best wishes of mine to stop both parties of doing what they are doing . they are soon to point me as an oponent side fighter.

So there is something wrong with the way their cases are put forward.

Is this the regular media distortion that makes this thing seem so or is there an intention underneath for a greater or more sinister purpose.

Whether or not you believe in the way I do but we believe in Muslim and when we pray we pray for all the believers and this includes all the believers of all the prophets mentioned in and all the living and the death of all.

My call is to all belivers (any way you belive) dont let anyone in between you and the thing you believein.

This is 21st century.everyone speaks about human rights and freedom of speech and freedom of thuoughts.I read all of your comments and I realized that i made amistake.we live in 12th century.if you want to speak about something,it is expected to know it well and islam is not exceptional.
step 1:
Islam dont allow to moslims to kill other people.
Islam dont allow to moslims to hurt other people.
Isalm dont allow to moslims to disrespect to other people.
Islam even dont alow to moslims to kill or hurt animals with no good reasons.
So how would you can imagine that Islam have permited to moslims to do such an irritating, wildly and nonesense action like blast.
step 2:
superpower of the world feel uncomfortable when they hear about Islam because they know that the only belief that threaten their situation and support people and human right is Islam,so they always try to show Isalm and Islamic beliefs as a enemy of human rights in order not to allow to people research about Isalm and their values. have you ever ask from yourself why they dont complain to other schools.I talk specialy with you who live in the counries that give you the freedom of speech and thought.I want from you just onething.research about Islam yourself. In this case you should not trust even to your reletives.
step 3:
Imagin that a group of christians kidnap a train or destroy a village and kill the people,by this are you think that christendom are terrorism or the school of christianity say to them to do this crime?
obviously not.
even if we accept that some moslim people do this blast _that is not true_ we should not think that moslims are terrorism or Islam give them this right.
At the end I condolence to the family of the people who past the way and I want from God to give relief to them.I am ready to response to all of your question about islam. Thank you

Listen carefully, folks...
Muslims condemning violence by Muslims is not working. Duhhh.. Muslims have been condemning violence in the name of Islam for years. And what are the results?
1. Muslims condemn violence, violence continues.
2. Nobody believes Muslims (see item 1)

You need to try something different! Plan A is not working! Does that make sense? It is my opinion that this is a Islamic problem and can only be resolved by Muslims, and nice words (bla, bla, bla, condemn, condemn, condemn) are NOT going to to do it.

This is my suggestion to Muslims for plan B. Try criticizing the inequality and discrimination that exists in all the Muslim world. Make them change the face of Islam. Let women drive and vote. Abolish and/or criminalize violence against women. End discrimination against other religions and foreign workers. Let other religions preach and sing and dance in the streets of Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Libya, etc… Try it! It can’t make things any worse it may even help. Or else suffer the consequences of doing nothing (but the same old things that haven’t worked).

This is old Kactuz signing off…

PS: and people wonder why I am cynical and pessimistic....

Bismillah Irahman Irahim!

I can't believe with the type of comments that are being made on this site that we wonder where terrorism comes from. Its roots are hatred, and the more the "us vs. them" attitude continues, the more it will continue to flourish.

What bothers me most about such sites, where all Muslims are blamed for everything going wrong in the world, because we either must help plot and plan the attacks, or if we condemn the terrorist attacks, which I am absolutely appalled by, we aren't doing enough to help fight terrorism, is that we just can't win, can we? When discrimination and hatred comes for all Muslims for the results of a few "Islamic" terrorists, how do you expect innocent law-abiding, ALLAH-loving Muslims to act?

What bothers me most about the "knowledge" of many of you on this board about "true Islam" is that I would venture to guess you have never read the Holy Quran, the Sunnahs, Hadiths, or even a basic explanation about the religion, unless it's written by a Christian or Jew of course. Don't pretend to tell us what our religion is and what it stands for. Don't pretend to take the most beautiful thing in my life and turn it into something ugly. Don't pretend to tell me what my status as a Muslim women is and that I am oppressed. The last thing I need is a white Christian male telling me (imagine the irony) that I am treated unfairly in my religion.

You want to talk about Muslim women's rights and the "necessary" end of the Niqab, let's talk about Botex and tummy tucks, injections into one's face to erase a natural process that ALLAH himself created. You want to talk about MY RIGHTS in my religion, when these things are becoming expected of Western women? I am free to choose the Niqab. I am not made to wear it. It is my right, so that I may be acceptable to ALLAH and taken for my brain, not my beauty, something Western women must fight for every day.

Please gain a 5-year-old's understanding of these things before you start coming on these sites with your "We are West so we must be right" mentalities and making such ignorant comments about changing other religions and cultures that have nothing to do with you. After all, if I am the enemy for being Muslim, what do you care about my rights?

ALLAH you are All-Knowing, All-Compassionate, All-Merciful, and may all that I say and do be acceptable to YOU.

Rebecca’s roundup of Muslim blogger reactions to the 7/7 bombings in London was linked by Instapundit.
