I don't see any point as to why chinese would restrict sites outside their country. Though I havn't been there for long time so I can't say much in this connection but the most obvious reason I see is the one due to language controversy. Otherwise there is not point.

Peter Pan,

China should remain an oppressed state
Freedom of speech is overrated
Look at the middle-east, we are destroying their cultures by giving their people rights
If China becomes free, then they will lose their whole cultural heritage

Nobody should ruin anyone's culture-don't you see my logic?

Note: One comment has been deleted due to use of obscene words. If the commenter would like to re-post without obscene words it will be permitted. However please note that the topic of this thread has to do with online freedom of speech in China. Other topics being posted in this thread are really killing the ability to discuss an important issue. We appreciate your consideration.

Peter Pan,

Ricky Tan are you suggesting that "Wake Up" has a closed conscious view of the world?

Don't you think that when people grow up, they should have the option to grow up in a culture that they choose, a religion that makes them happy, and freedoms that makes everyone equal (at least politically)???

Is this not just?

Or should we keep cultures isolated from one another so they can keep their identities?

Wake Up seems to want an impoverished world and corrupt governments that support oppressed cultures-that way we can have many cultural identities

THE LAST THING 'WAKE UP' WOULD WANT TO DO IS TO SUPPORT A NATION THAT IS FOUNDED ON TOLERANCE-RATHER HE WOULD SIDE WITH OPPRESSSSSSSSSSED NATIONS....

Poster "WAKE UP" needs to wake up. The United States of America is all that stands between civilized society and anarchy. The comparisons of the USA to Hitler, USSR etc are so ludicrous that they defy reality. Perhaps "WAKE UP" should go back to school and learn some history. One does not have to agree with everything that our neighbours do but one would expect that even the most rudimentary of educations would impart the knowledge that our American cousins have stood tall and brought more freedom to this world than any other country on the planet. Perhaps "WAKE UP" could illuminate us all as to what country on this planet has done more for freedom than the USA. To our American friends, I will not apologize for this asshats comments. Better to be thought a fool than to open ones mouth and remove all doubt as this individual has done. Happy Independence Day!

Steffan is right: "Either Wake Up! is not a native speaker of English, or..."

In fact he's not Canadian, as is clear by his misuse of the metaphor, "last ditch," which he puts in parentheses and by his use of the cow metaphor. I suspect he is Afghani and drives a cab for Beck--and a filthy cab at that--as filthy as his mind.

I remember being driven home from dialysis one night by a feverish and uncommunicative Afghani listening to the radio and hysterically shrieking about 3,000 people having being killed. "Isn't that the same number as were murdered in the two towers?" I asked. He shrugged off the question.

I see he is still feverish, uncommunicative, with a filthy mind (and taxi no doubt).

God bless George W. Bush and the Indian fighters! (the Indian Wars are not hidden from Americans--they are in every history survey of America.)(Note no mention is made of the invasion of Europe and Russia and N. Africa by the Muslims.)

Ricky Tan here:

Wake Up, thank you for sharing your opinion, which you obviously believe is right and maybe believe to be infallibe. I will tell you that I am starting to get sick of all the people out there who believe themselves to be 100% right. Your liberal opinion has its fair share of truth in it and I believe you do have good values, but the conservative or the republican opinion also has truth to it. In order to pretend to be 100% right, you must understand both opinions and really see the good and truth in both. Then you can be arrogant enough to claim to know the greater truth, but to claim such perfection would be foolish. Rather claim that you are closer than most people to understanding that truth.

Now to move on: (What do you consider a cultural identity???)

Do you support cultures that do not support education?
Do you support cultures that do not give its people freedom?
Do you support cultures that do not tolerate other cultures?
Do you support cultures that hate everything you stand for?

***There are many cultures that are not acceptable in the world.

I believe that when a child is born, he and she should have the freedom to choose what lifestyle they want, what religion suits them, and what culture brings them the most happiness.

I believe it to be ironic that you care so much about protecting the super-conservative Islamic culture and their opinion, but disregard the opinion of the American conservative.

I just asking you to take a step back and reconsider....

Iraq war:
1)We had plenty of reasons for going to war, but did not go to war the right way and I admit that I did not initially support the Iraq war.

2)It has been over 2 years since that decision was made

3)Now, the questions should not be: Why did we go to Iraq?

4)The questions should be: What is the best way to form a government that supports their culture, but also supports freedom for the people, and how do we achieve it?

To be frank: Wake Up, I believe your remarks to be short-sighted because YOU REFUSE TO ANYTHING GOOD IN PRESIDENT BUSH'S ACTION. THUS, YOU CONSIDER YOUR OPINION TO BE INFALLIBLE AND THAT MY FRIEND IS ARROGANT AND WRONG...
